Hi all, On my '08 1200 Custom I have forward mounted controls and I want to buy crash bars but at the dealership they told me that I couldn't put them on my bike because they would screw into the place where the controls are located. Is this true? Are there any other options I have? Thanks in advance.
Ditto here also. Don't believe everything a dealer or service person tells you. Old school engine guards were called crash bars. Story goes that a rider crashed, tried to sue HD because of the word "crash"....thought that kept a person from crashing. Hello? Not sure if this was the reason HD changed the wording.
I have an '06 Custom with an HD engine guard. Your best option is to talk to someone at the dealership who knows what they're talking about - whoever told you the engine guard screws in where the forwards are mounted does NOT know what they're talking about..
I have the HD highway barsI call em crash bars on my 07 883L I also have a 06 1200C with forwards . looks like they will bolt up fine Im just not sure if brake pedal will clear bar it looks like it will. I know of a 04 883 C with forwards and HD highway bars mounted looks ok to me. I think you can.
Have engine/crash bars on wifes 2007 Sportster Low with forward controls. Was part of the deal, so the Harley Dealer/service dept put it on before we took it home.
I have them on my '04 Custom. HD crash bars & highway pegs. You can see them in my pics. The controls are no where near the bars; I wear a size 12 boot and my feet are clear of the crash bars when on the standard forward controls. I can put my heels on the controls and toes on the highway pegs, though.
I have a 05 with the guard on. up front is the mounting bracket.look in the accessory book and see if they state with forward controls or if they state with mid controls. if they don't state either oneandif you have the bracket welded on you frame you should be able to use a guard.
