OK changed my oil since I hit 10k miles tonight. Spilt alot on the floor from the removing the filter, but beside that everything went ok. Question is and I used the search and only found a few things relateing. I added 3.6 qts like the book said - 4oz from the filter. What is the right way to check the oil on the dip stick? Do you pull it out , wipe it off. Then just stick it in not turning it? Or do you stick it in turn it, then pull it out and check it? OK If I just stick it in and pull it out the oil is halfway, but if I turn it after sticking it in the oil is over the fill line? Wich way is it? If it is too full can I just remove some from the area of the dipstick? I did ride it for 2 miles after chaning it.
You probably over filled it to be honest with you. Get a turkey baster and pull some out or drain a little out of the drain hose. To check the level you don't have to push and lock the dipstick, just put it in and turn it.

+1 An oil change takes 3 quarts max. The 3.6 quarts listed in the manual is for a new "factory dry" engine. Get out the turkey baster.
Like has been said, 3 qts, mine likes it half way between full and add marks. And check it after running engine till it's up to running temps, ya can't check it cold and get a good reading.
Better remove more than a couple of ounces. More like a quart.
A helpful tip for the oil filter removal: First, take out the dip stick. Get a piece of card board, or heavy paper (beer box works good for this). A heavy hammer, and a small phillips head screw driver or punch. Knock a hole in the bottom of the oil filter, with said beer box fitted up under the filter to drain into a pan. Then knock another hole in the top of the oil filter to allow for air flow, and good drainage. Damn near all of the oil will drain from the filter while you drink a beer.
I'll have to try the box then. I did use the filter box like on the dvd. BUT the filter box got maybe a table spoon while the floor got the most.[:@] I think removing a quart would be way too much, then I would only have 2.6 in it.
*Edit*
Bad math my bad I will have to remove about 14-18 oz or so/
