hook it up to a tender like Deltran's, it will bring the battery to a full charge then go into float mode to maintain the charge without boiling the battery ... hook it up and forget it till you ready to ride again ... I used 4 Deltran unit on different bike over the winter without problems

Yeah, you need one, a battery tender will run you about $30 and save ya alot of trouble. If you just start it up now and then it won't run long enough to charge the battery. Pep Boys has the Battery Tender Jr. it works good. When you hook up the pigtail hook the neg to the ground post on the engine you won't have to remove the battery that way

You can use the harley version if you don't mind paying for a name. go to your nearest wal-mart and get a battery tender brand, just make sure it has auto floating capibility.

Walmart has battery tenders (float chargers) for < $20.00. Just make sure it is a Float Charger and NOT a Trickle charger. Amps don't really matter as they are used to "maintain" a battery, not recharge them.

Also, don't try to keep the battery charged by starting the bike every few weeks. This will do more harm than good unless you can take the bike out and ride it for at least 30 minutes. The engine needs to come up to full temp for a while to burn off condensation that will form in the oil.

Yeh, just starting it and letting it run for a few without riding it is worse than not starting it at all.
