hello all and thanks in advance for the help with these questions...here we go.
i just got a 2008 nightster with 3k on the clock. the only mods when i got it was a set of SE slip-ons. while riding it is surging and not running very well till i get about 50mph or faster. i figured since it is a FI engine that the ECM was not liking the exhaust flow. i picked up a PCIII power commander and was looking at the maps and it shows a few with stock everything but the slip-ons. my question is about the O2 eliminators...no where in the directions did it state that i needed to install them but most of the maps call for them to be installed. should i install them or should i call and get a different map.
i have never used a PCIII before and i can say that i am not very good with computers and i have never tuned anything besides a nitro RC buggy. please help me figure this out. i love the harley but the surging is really starting to wear on my nerves. thanks again.

That PCIII will not work with out those 02 eliminators! They have to be installed. well it will work but the bike will run like crap. a PCIII is very easy to install and use. Plug and play. If your going to use something like that you might want to just go ahead and put some type of high flow a/c on the bike as well to get the full performance from it.
I was just recently told that the PCIII does not work well with 07 and above, by two different service managers from two different stealerships. They said thats the reason that the PCV was brought out. Take it for what its worth.
Spur, those guys told you wrong, I have one on a 2007 1200C and it changed my throttle from what Rob was experiencing to a rheostat like smooth and linear throttle. Jamie set mine up to be 10% richer than stock across the board and that is perfect. Oil temp went down about 30 degrees too.
Rob, if you have the 50 State SE slip on's you don't need to do anything.
not sure if they are the 50 state legal but i do know that the baffles have been removed. maybe that is the reason my baby is running so rough. i am going to try and get it tuned after i get my AC today or tomorrow. its a K&N with a custom backplate and cover. its the E-3040 filter.
gonna try and load a few pics later today. i do know one thing...the nightster seat makes it a pain in the *** to install the PCIII. i had to cut the plastic above the ECM and remove some of the foam to the the connections in there. not much room under the low seat.
I have a PC III USb on my 07 1200 and it's great. If the baffels have been removed then the slip on maps are not going to get the right amount of fuel you need-you will still be lean. I have Martin Bros two down pipes, SE Stage I AC and none of the maps would get the bike running right so i just had a dealer do a dyno tune and the bike runs awesome! I'm making about 15 HP more then stock.
You can run the PC III wiht the O2's hooked up, but it will limit the rage the PC III can be tuned. Just use the O2 elims and you will be happy. i still have the O2's in my pipes, but using the elims.

that's because they want to sell you a SE Pro Super Tuner.
The PCIII works fine, the PCV is just an update with some additional functionality like the ability to use the auto-tune module. It's also physically smaller and the map columns are broken out slightly differently in the throttle %.
But FYI, you can use the PCV on 07 and up, the power commander site just lists the 3 for pre-09's to get rid of them all I guess.
The canned PC maps will get you going and get rid of the surging, etc, but they are programmed rich as hell, presumably to make sure that it's never to lean, kindof a one size fits all thing since every bike is a little different. Best bet is an actual dyno tune. I'm holding off on the dyno for now because I don't want to redo it when I get cams and exhaust.
