Default Jet sizes

I will be putting an Arlen Ness Big Sucker I onto my '06 883 custom and know I will need to rejet the carb. I have looked around the forum for the jet sizes I will need, but have found a few different sizes. What sizes would you recommend for the best gains? (I will be adding mufflers later)

From what I have seen discussed here most find that the same sizes work across the board. .

When I rejetted my carb . I used exactly 2 turns on the mixture screw and its worked fine. I figured I'd rather err on the side of slightly rich vs lean.

I've been very pleased with the sound of the cycle shacks and I couldn't beat the price vs sound. When you do the mufflers get 2 exhaust gaskets for the head as I had to take my exhaust off to get the slipons installed. I needed the leverage. Also be sure to have the crossover gaskets handy.

There are many many threads with full instructions and tips. I found it very easy and putting around I was done in 45 minutes. I even put some tips that I found useful in the thread.

For what it's worth, harley-performance.com has their basic jet kit on sale for $19.95 with free shipping until 6/5. It comes with two main jets, two pilot jets, a CVP needle (whatever that is, lol), stainless steel screw kit, and a drill bit to get the plug off the idle adjustment screw. Just ordered mine.

Not sure what size the jets are but I'm assuming there will be a 45 and a 180 in there.

I had many jets 3 main and 3 pilot shipped for less than that from jpcycles. All thats needed is a 1/8 or #40 or #30 drill bit its relatively easy and inexpensive. This way you know exactly what jets you are getting.

Good information. Yeah, the drill bit wasn't exactly a deal sweetener for me, just thought I'd be thorough in listing what is included. I hit J&P's web site and couldn't for the life of me find where the jets were listed individually. The only thing I could find was their jet kit which is priced at $35.99 (which also includes the jet needle). Granted, I didn't call them but I'm okay with spending the $20 on the HDP kit. I'm guessing the additional cost is the jet needle.

Thanks for the replies... I know it's a pretty basic question.

I was able to remove the plug w/o taking the carb off. I used a dremel to make a hole and then a sheet metal screw to pull it out.
My 06 1200c had a 42 and I just adjusted it at first after my SE air filter and Cycle Shack slip-on's. But it kept popping and farting so I went to J&P and got a 45. Ran that for a while but I was a tad rich so I got a 44 and so far w/o adjusting it again all seems ok.
There are environmental factors to think about, since I live in FL where its high humidity and the air pressure it can make a bit of difference.
I know this link is another forum but there is a LOT of good info here if you are willing to read.

There seems to be more misinformation being passed out around here lately than anything else.

Am I the only one that finds it interesting that the OP has an 883, and all of the thread responders have 1200's and are recommending 1200 jet sizes?

Since different exhausts and A/C's have different flow rates, there is no single answer to "what size jets", only a suggested starting place. For an 883, start with a 44 pilot, and a 175 main.

I have a phobia about after market jets being as accurate as factory Keihin jets so i only use Keihin parts.

Keep in mind that Keihin jets are in MM,mains like a 180 are 1.80 MM
Pilots are the same 45 is .45 MM or less than .020 inches.

If you see a 43-44-46-47 pilot jet Keihin didnt make it as they make 38-40-42-45-48-50-52 and some others for the CV carb

The difference between a 45 and a 48 is .00118 thousands
Pretty fine hair to split.

My bike runs the same with a 45 or 48 except around town where you can tell the engine is a little rich with the 48
