Service guy at the dealer told me they can do a burn on my ecm. for $150 bucks. if i do pipes and an air cleaner. but he could not tell me what it would be good for. or work well with? has anyone done this and how has it worked. and what set-up do you have? pipes air cleaner. thanks
The ECM download is a waste of 150$ IMHO. It still keeps the AF ratio at factory settings, which is too lean. Only thing it does is raise the rev limit to 6200.

go with a tuner like the PCV. give Jamie at fuel Moto a call and he will take care of you. you can tune this yourself and re-tune it later. If you do the dealer retune, you have to do it every time you change something
i used to work on moto-guzzi's they have the same fi system, used the same computer scaner/programer with a differant cartridge inserted.. on the guzzi's the program would change the bike to european standards which raised the rev limeter and increased the fuel mixture.. i cant sware that is the same on harleys but it is the same system and tuner.. my bike 01 eg has the cartridge download they told me it changes the timming and rev limeter, but they really didnt know what it does..mabye the reason the factory wont say what it does is because changing the fuel mix is a emisions violation??
btw on the guzzi's we did the download on every sportbike for free so we wernt selling turds..mabye i should of waited and charged the buyers to buy us all lunch..it would still have been a huge deal
ask the dealer about doing the stage 2 download for your stage 1 pipes and a/c. this is supposed to richen the air/fuel ratio. did a stage 1 download and dissappointed. bike still runs too lean. i just hate the idea of spending many hundred dollars on fuel moto or similiar and taking chance of voiding warranty.
It's my understanding that the HD download or flash whatver you want to call it richens up the A/F a tad and bumps the rev limiter up 200 RPM's this is not a tune, but more of a overall bump just so the bike does nto run so lean with the new slip on's and AC. MY XL50 has the download and I still had to go with a PC III and dyno tune to get it to run right with the full pipes and SE stage I AC. My C has slip on's and Stage I, but have no idea about fueling since I got it used from a metric dealer. It runs good so I'm going to leave it alone. If you are just going to do slip on's then stock tune will be fine.
