Dude, you are lugging that bike. You need to wind that thing out and get the R's up.

I was going to buy one of these GoPRO's....
...but, when I read the reviews on Amazon there are an equal number of people that give this thing 1 star (about 150) as there are that gave it 5 stars (about 160).

Amazon.com: GoPro HERO3: Silver Edition: Electronics Amazon.com: GoPro HERO3: Silver Edition: Electronics

So, does this thing work or not?
Or, is there a per-unit quality problem

For those who have one, what is your experience?

I was looking too at the GoPro, but the reviews I read about the Hero 3 are just awefull.
Between bad FW (fixable, but yet) and lame battery life, I kind of had a second though.

i use the gopro suction cup mount the most !!

it fits directly one the speedo glass and sits just fine !
u can also just pop it around so u can get foward and rider shots ! pretty damn kewl
i also modded my case so i can use a cobra cb radio external mic , which is clipped near the exhaust, no wind noise at all commpared to the gopro crap mic !! 2 vids to show the mic differ !! loads more videos on my page if your bored
both videos are with the suction cup mount on the speedo !
i used all mounts so far and this is my fav - next is the helmet - then the chest mount
with modded mic hookup

gopro built in junky mic

Your GoPRO seems to work - which one do you have - the white, silver, or black edition? And what is your experience per the bad reviews on Amazon.com?

With all the bad reviews and these things costing $200-$400 many of us are reluctant to buy.. unless we get some info from some "trusted" users - like here in this forum.

I have both Hero 2 and Hero 3 Black edition. When I got my Hero 3 early this year, the firmware was crap. Mine would freeze randomly, more often after 10 minutes of straight video recording. A lot of people have several problems ranging from the constant freezing to heat issues.

Recently, I have updated to a new firmware version 02.37 (2nd from the current release) and the problem goes away. No more lock ups during recording. Heat was there but I haven't had any problems with it.

A friend of mine updated his Black Edition to the current firmware and complains that the unit becomes very hot over time. There are a lot of people who are very happy with the Hero 3 and I'm one of them. YMMV.

i dont have any issues with mine but every so often it will freeze when switching from camera to video or other settings, but it only does this for a second or 2 then catchs up

other then that no issues - maybe its just the way others try to use it , or maybe its the user ? not sure but mine works pretty damn good
by the way i have the hero 2 and 3 black ed.

firmware was crap, i also have the wifi backpack, i upgraded firmware and have had no issues - i dont have heat issues with the came at all

u can also hook it up to a android or iphone and see video threw it or use it as a remote control , i have no problems or issues with my gopro, heck iv dropped one a few times and it still functions perfect..

i do get a little shakey video but hey its a harley, haha

the video from it is awsome - if your not going to use it alot or get tired of it
then dont buy one , its worth the price i think , the wifi remote makes it even more fun to use

heres some pix of the hero2 setup and the modded cam case
drilled hole in the case - so i can use an external mic , i will never use the camera underwater so i didnt really care - if you do plan to go underwater then just buy a new case and mod it or buy the skeleton case - its the same thing as the the regular case
but the sides are cut out for easy operation of all buttons and plugs
1 is the remote and a android device
2 is the android app for gopro
3 is the camera case , remote, wifi backpack, suction cup base, and mic cable i think
4 is the modded case for external mic
all pic were taken with gopro cam

I also have the Ego and everything here you said is accurate and on point! One quick thing I find useful with the camera is the Wi-Fi capability. You can sync it to your phone and immediately watch videos/photos instead of waiting until you get to a computer or something. That feature alone kicks *** and it just sweetens the deal.
