cant do any long distance riding for now. i think the NC trip did it for her.
i posted my question over in the "touring" section about this. to get an answer. speedo
today went over to screamin egos fort to check out ladyhawks NEW ride. on the way over the speedo dropped out again. even after that short ride. on the way home it dropped out again and this time the idle dropped down to about 500rpm
but it soon came back back, NOT NORMAL. pulled into the garage, left it running to "find" the issue and it started to sputter.
so till i find this issue long rides are down. back and forth for 10min to work isnt a big deal since itdoesnt get hot enough to cause issue. so hopefully by this weekend i can get a resolution on my own before i spend mega bucks for the dealer to find.
I dunno bout this new way of thinking? what happened to the ol timers that would fix their own shovelheads and wrench their own scoots instead of just 'trading' in for a new model?
Oh yeah, I know, they make the bikes so damn complicated now, You get so frustrated trying to find the problem in all the computer crap on board now.
Wow... this issue is becoming a very serious one~ Hope you get it figured out and repaired soon~ Sucks that stealership up north charged you a pretty penny only to get down the road and have it become a bigger problem~
You could always do like I did... trade it up for the wife's bike... then YOU can ride biotch!
Next step is to start looking for loose, broken or dirty wiring.
You mentioned the appears when switching from low to high beams. This may be a good place to start. Try to repo this by clearing all codes and switch from low to high beam. Then check for codes. Also check any other electrical add-ons that have been installed.
Here are some areas that others have found wiring problems that cause what you are seeing.
Battery terminals Bad ground - Anywhere - The service manual would be very helpful here. Neutral safety switch Bank angle sensor Bad or blown fuses Ignition switch Handlebar controls Voltage regulator Wiring harness – one way to check this is to clear all codes, start the bike and rotate the handlebar full right and left looking to repo the speedo problem and codes. Another way is to remove the outer fairing and start wiggling wires. And in your case, switching from low to high beam.
