97 FLHR - I need to replace the shifter shaft bushings. I really don't want to remove the inner primary for this. Is the bore through the primary the same all the way through. Not enough room to press inner bushing in, so I was thinking of cutting it both out, cooling (like valve guides) and pressing/driving from the outside. Is this possible and has anyone done it?
I posted this in the tech side, but not sure how many of you check that Forum.

Yeah, I think that's quite doable...obviously the trickier part will be getting the old bushing out, but cutting straight thru carefully should work well, and then freezing, lubing, and driving the new one in is how I'd do it.

Thanks. Didn't see any reason why it wouldn't work just wanted confirmation. I'll throw it up on the lift and make it happen.
there are two short bushing in there you can drive them out from the outside they are short enough that the will come out the inside I forget the id of the bore but it Is about 11/16 drive them out then put the inside one in and drive it until it is just flush with the out side of the inside of the chain case then drive the out one in just flush
I always install three bushings! Makes shifter nice and tight,
Steve
I thought about that, but I have a grease fitting that I don't want to block. I guess middle bushing could be drilled after install, but I like the idea of grease packing the center void and pushing out.
