Default How to keep your engine running cooler

I Have a 2013 EG ultra limited, I have been wondering about trading it in on one of new 2015 EG ultra limited because of the liquid cooled heads, but I really like my bike. I have done a stage 1 with Vance and Hines Power duals and monster rounds exhaust with a SERT. Sounds great, runs good, but I have been stuck in some stop and go traffic when it was over 100 degrees. I don't care to split lanes because I don't trust the other drivers and I know myself, that when I'm in my car, I'm not always looking for some someone on a bike sharing my lane. Anyway my bike ran ok. But I was wondering, are these Jag cooler with fan assist going to do the same as these newer bikes with the liquid cooled heads. I have also looked into the Wards fans and I wonder if they would also do the same thing. Besides, I wonder with the 2013 being the last year that they made the EG Limited with the air cooled engine if it might hold its value longer down the road. Anyway if anyone has any insight on this I would welcome some opinion's.

The Jag Cooler with a fan may help some,,, but my '13 Ultra only has the stock oil cooler on it.. Since I did the mods to my bike and with the added fuel mixture from the SE Pro Super Tuner,,, the heat is gone and so are the Saddle Guards that were mounted below my seat . I replaced the Air Temp gauge with the HD Oil Temp gauge in the inner fairing & sending unit in the Oil pan,,, the actual Oil Temp stays between 170* - 200*...
Unless you're in a lot of Parades each year I'd save the money.

Fan is good, quality oil cooler helps, but sounds like your fuel mixture is lean.

Change cams and get a more variable tuner. The stock cam timing keeps a lot of heat i the bike to reduce emissions. The SERT helps, but still runs lean. I changed out my cams and put on a PCIII. It runs much cooler, even in traffic. Oh, it runs a lot stronger now too, but that's just a side effect. :-D

I felt the same way about my '12 Ultra.

I ended up getting a powervision and flashed a good tune. Any of the OEM or HD download tunes are going to be EPA compliant and pretty lean.

But the best thing I did to stop the heat was to add the FCS fans. I have not gone into ETIMS since I added Jason's fans.

Great product, great customer service, and great vendor...

Good luck...

Wards fans, oil cooler with a good tune. You will stop thinking of trading.
I have wards fans. Got stuck in traffice for over 2 hours to get 12 miles. The fans did their job and good at that. Never over heated or did my leg did not get hot, rather warm but not hot. I'm sold on em.

High Cylinder Head temp is not indicative of high oil temp. Before getting an oil cooler, I recommend an oil temp gauge to determine if you need an oil cooler. The heat we feel sitting in the saddle is from the rear head and header.. an oil cooler will have some, but little, effect on that. These engines do a pretty good job at keeping the oil temp within an optimal range.

The first thing I did was remove the header with the CAT and replace it with a Fuel Moto ceramic coated stainless steel header. If you haven't removed the CAT you may want to do that first. The Wards fans are a big help as well.

Don't bet on "collector value".

your Limited is not unique...there are millions of the twincam motors running around and probably 60,000 wet heads out there now.

The wetheads have a clear advantage in controlling combustion chamber temps, which allows more power from the same cubes...higher compression & more cam.

just making the mixture "richer" may give a cooler motor, but within a slight margin.
too rich will result is less power..which I suppose will be cooler as the motor isn;t running peak efficiency.
really rich will deposit a bunch of carbon in the heads, clog up the cat and can even corrupt the oil.

external cooling fans will help remove heat from the motor
cooling the oil will remove heat from the motor internals- oil is used to pull heat from the hottest parts of our motors

EITMS is a good thing as it turns off the fuel to the rear cylinder so that it only pumps air. this air removes heat.
It will only come on at idle speeds at less than 3 MPH...so typically when stopped at a light.

In terms of longevity- many, many riders live in warm climates where 100ş is routine and expected.
No big deal for the machine.
rider comfort is another matter- I find thick jeans and/or chaps keep me from feeling the heat

keep the fairing lowers on, they really help with cooling the motor.
