Default Metz...Tires

A few thousand (9k) miles ago, I replaced the rear tire(Dun) from my 03 FL with a Metzler and was really impressed by the improvement in the handling/control of the bike -- I left the front tire (Dun) because it had a ton of tread. The wrench in the tire store told me that I would be back to put the Metz on the front as well. I did notbut stillwas impressed with the improvement from the change to the rear.

I did get some odd tracking/minor wobble but just thought it was the way it was to be.

I needed to change the rear and this time I just figured I change both. I did it and now the bike is so solid and tracks so nice, I just can't believe it. The bike feels like it is on rails! I suppose if I add the ridestr8 or other, I'd be able to keep up with the ricers!

I'd buy the Metzagain even if they were double price!

Could there be any better tire for the FL?

Some here say Avon Tyres. They have tried both and saythat Avonare better than Metzler. I'm going with Meztlers very soon because of the great reviews.

Hey GearHead...

Very interesting post for me because I am currently on my second annual solo MC ride and I have the exact set-up that you 'had.' New Metz ME 880 on the rear and the OEM Dunny on the front. I agree 100% with you that the Metz is an improvement on the rear. I was trying to explain the subtle difference to my wife yesterday. I started this trip by doing the IronButt SaddleSore 1000 and noticed that lane changes on uneven road surfaces seemed much better with the Metz. After reading your post, I can't wait to put the Metz on the front!!

Is there a good online place that any of you guys know of to get good deals on the Metzlers? Also, what size of the Metzler 880 would be the same as the oem Dunlop on an 07 Ultra?

The Ultra I just bought still has the stock Duns and I can't for the life of me wait till they wear out. I swear they will follow a chalk line on the ground. Seams in the road scare me to death, and wet roads are another story. I've ridden BMWs in the past and the Metz ME880 is the best heavy touring tire hands down. I can't wait till I install them.

Changing one tire is Ok if you install the same or simular tire. The Dunlop and Metzler tires are so far appart in pourpose and performance I would never mix them on the same bike.

all you new Metz guys, check with your Metz catalogue for tire pressure. Not the same as other brands.
