Many here will disagree with my thoughts but they are my thoughts. I got 35000 out of my first original comp, when I replaced I bought a drag specialties replacement, it also lasted over 35000 miles, I'm at 70K and do not need to replace but am needing to change the primary shaft seal so while in there I'm putting in another comp, but its the VTwin brand comp p/n 19-0584, found thru several vendors but bought thru Ebay thru VTwin Customs. Long story short, the comps are $117 and are direct replacements of the 2007 original comp, no changing of anything else. Screaming Eagle requires new Alt cover and spring set, same with others, all total over $500. For my $$ I'm good changing every 35-40,000 miles. These are my 2 cents.

I have a 15 SGS. I had nothing but trouble with compensators. The dealer wouldn't even warrantee it! Neither would the MoCo. So I bought a Baker. I had a issue with it, and Baker sent a brand new one. This one is a LOT better, but it still sometimes has a little loud clack on start up. I only had this one on for about 400 miles. The last one broke or cracked or ? around 2500 miles. While I was waiting for the replacement, I put the stock one back in. I did a little shimming and it wasn't too bad. I see the new 17 has a very similar one to the 15. I'm not sure if any parts are interchangeable though. I'm putting the stock one back in with a new spring pack. The stock ones, since 2011 are the Screamin Eagle version. I'm curious of Nevets61 post. I was wondering about the cheaper version replacements. I don't know him but, he seems to ride enough to know about them. For that kind of money, it's worth a look.

my stock was ok but got louder at around 20,000 and had a loud bang on start up.

put the se comp in and all that went away.It also enhanced the ride, maybe more torque or something else? like some people prefer one seat over another its hard to explain.

At 60,000 se got louder and decided to just replace it with the baker comp and adjuster. not needed I just like to tinker

I got over 60k on my stock compensator on my '07 and changed to the Baker. All of the noises are gone, shifting smoother. I'd rather spend more once than buy less expensive products of inferior design.

One look ol at the Baker design said it all to me...

Installed the SE (pre-glue-in wedge) in my '07 King. No more bang on start-up, and bike sems to be smoother at slow speeds.

I picked up a Baker during Sturgis last year and never looked back. Been working over a year now.

Vasilis,

I replaced my stock 2010 compensator this June with the latest Screamin Eagle one. Instant improvement, and with about 2000 mile on it all seems well.

If I recall the Baker is a little more $$ if that matters.

I am still using the stock primary chain adjustor but did pick up a new Baker attitude adjustor (after the bike was put back on the road) in the for sale section on this site for a great price, but have not installed it yet.

If you decide to go with the Baker, check with them on whether you need the new rotor, my understanding is you WILL need it so anything other than the stock style replacement mentioned above will also require that new rotor.
