I had a similar experience. My first thought was the rubber bushings that hold the exhaust, while the bag was off, and and the bushing removed, I stated it to see if the noise went away, and bingo, my bag mount was loose.
Glad you found it, those noises can make a preacher swear..
Over the years I developed a habit of just walking around the bike and shaking, pulling, pushing or nudging parts. Once in a great while I find something loose.
Had the same issue and swore it was the tour pak mount. Nope, rear light bar as well. Now I'm hunting down a front end mystery noise that is not only unlike any other sound you hear described coming from the front end but it is also very inconsistent.
I wash my bike up on the jack, blower dry it, then wipe it down with a clean micro fiber towel and Eagle One Detail Spray. I push, pull, tug, twist everything I can get to. I found my rear signal bar loose once, snugged it down good, no problem since.
I sometimes approach it like something, somewhere on my bike is loose - now FIND IT.
Some time ago I saw a list of the parts to check if you hear a noise....
It basically included EVERY part on a bike...
