I have one on my 2010. The gear indicator works as the others explained. You gain the digital fuel indicator as well. The custom display colors are nice and the tach is a big bonus. I like mine enough I may put another in my 2016.

I put it on my 13 RKC for the Tach (did not want a seperate gauge). It does show the witch gear you are in. Gas gauge is more accurate than the one on the tank. Colors, have not played with them.

My wife has it on her 2016 Road King and loves it. She had it on her previous 2010 RK, and said she really missed it on the 16, so I installed it for her. It's a piece of cake to install. She also was interested in the gear indicator, the better gas gauge (she has the skull LED lights gas gauge), and the tach, but of course she also really likes the cool colors!
