Haha.. yea, that's why I don't ride the Vulcan much.. That ****in seat is BRUTAL.. 30 minutes on NY roads and im numb. It takes an hour just to ride off Long Island and find worthwhile roads, so the Vulcan = No Thanks.
Anyway, thanks a lot for your input. I think I'm going to end up pulling the trigger on the special within the next week. Can't ride it for another month or so anyway :/ ...
Also on LI, Mike at Eastern Harley gave me a great discounted price on both my 13 RG, and my 17 RKS, you may want to talk to him before you commit. Good luck!

Wow! Didn't even realize you were in NY man. Thanks for the recommendation. I'm in Florida for the weekend visiting my folks. They had a reccomendation at Seminole Harley.. I think I'm getting a fairly decent price (~24.5k out the door, delivered to NY with $1700 in parts installed) and I can register and insure in Florida (sales tax here is 6%). When I get back home tomorrow, I'm going to hit the dealer there and make the wife sit on some bikes one last time. Maybe next weekend I'll swing by Eastern Harley. It's pretty far from me (I'm on the edge of Nassau/Queens).

That sounds like a pretty good deal.
I paid $22,115 OTD for my 17. That was for the Denim Gray which added $450 to the cost.
If you decide to give Mike a call, his number is (631) 727-4700.
Again, good luck, hope to see you on the road this spring.
On Saturdays we often ride to Oakdale Beach, where a lot of bike guys sit and BS. Ocean Pkwy is pretty nice, at least there are no lights.

Sounds good. Mine is denim gray too actually, forgot to mention that. I may change to vivid black though, haven't decided.. Either way, I'm always interested in riding with new people. I'll shoot ya a PM with my contact info a little closer to riding season. Either on the Harley or the Yamaha (maybe even the Kawi if I don't get the Harley), I'll be riding come spring.
Just bought a 17 RKS, coming off a street glide with 110ci. I do lotsa long rides every weekend. Very comfy after my mods I am 6,2 and needed to get a seat that set me back a bit, I did 14 factory 47 malo bars (meat hooks) I borrowed a friends 14 inch windshield and needed taller. Tried the HD windsplitter because the look, has a bad *** fairing look.
Love the handling of this bike, does not compare to my SG or my dyna. I spent a bunch o money on the suspension on both. HD got the M8 right on the touring bikes.
14 handlebars
touring seat by mustang
19 inch cvo windshield by freedom shield - dark tint
i have 21 inch billboard shield clear for touring trips
This is my buddy sitting on my bike on a ride. He is 5,8

I really like those bars! Thanks for the pics, especially with your 5'8" buddy on the bike. That's convenient! Did you have to replace and cables or anything with the bars? Also, do you use lowers on touring trips? At 6'2" you're a good 4 inches taller, so you sit back further than I do, but I catch a TON of wind under my head and helmet..
I like the way they look. And, they make it easier to turn the bars hard and still reach the controls. They were easier to fish the wires through, but the bar mounted turn signals are oriented for much less grip angle. So you either have them pointing outwards at about 45 degrees, rotate their mounting block awkwardly forward, or do what I did and cough up the additional $150 to mount them on the sides of the fork tubes.
As for their comfort? Well, they moved the pain from between my shoulder blades to the middle of my back...so, Id say its a wash for me. I had to invest in a back rest. The hunched over bad-*** feet forward arms out Harley look works when youre 25...but can suck when youre 60. But, Riding position is a relative thing, so what works for one guy wont necessarily work for another, right?
If I could do it over, Id look for a low bar with more forward grip rotation...like maybe a Wild1 W0504? Anyway, hope this helps?
This is what I did. W0504B (requires the 1.25" riser adapter). The angle is perfect. I'm short (5'8") so I'd like it if they came back a little further. The other models do but the angle is too wheel-barrow-y for me. So now I have a reduced reach Corbin on order....
With these bars, the turn signals have the same issue you experienced. I bought just the turn signal mount kit 67800706 for the forks thinking I could reuse the bullet turn signals from the bars, but I'm not so sure now. These mounts have cutouts for a reason I'm not aware of...I assume it's for the attachment of the SG Bat Wing maybe? I think I need to return it to get the full kit 67800167. Anyone know if the mounts are the same?
Wow...what a deal! What dealer? Might be worth a drive across state! Sweet bike! Love the RKS!
Brighton Harley. Its even closer to you than where I'm at. I drove around to a bunch of different dealers in one day and got quotes on a Black RKS, and Brighton made me the best offer to boost their end of month sales. Really nice people there too and they will do anything they can to get you onto a bike and keep the payments within your budget. If you decide to buy a bike from there, mention my name and I'll get a $200 gift card that I'll just give to you. Message me if you need some more information.
Great choice, hopefully you enjoy yours as much I do mine! Black and black gonna be some work to keep clean.
I'm going to have to train myself to be a compulsive cleaner. Luckily in Michigan we won't have riding weather for another 3 months, so I'll have plenty of time to condition myself to be a neat freak haha
