I have and do have a goldwing and a electroglide. I have been on gold wings for around 25 years. I had surgery on my neck and have a small amount of nerve damage in my left arm. I triked my goldwing because of some related issues around that. I decided I was not done with 2 wheels so I added a 2012 limited to the garage.( feel blessed that I can do that) I did not want another goldwing. I wanted something different. Looked at Indian's and liked them but not many used ones where I live and did not want to pay for a new one. All of that being said and I like my goldwings, but I bought the electroglide for different reasons. I wanted to be able to lower the bike. Much more options to do that with HD. I wanted a different seating position. I wanted more air in my face, and I wanted the sound and retro look. I think the new goldwing will be nice, but goldwing riders will buy them and HD riders will stay with HD or another similar bike such as the new Yamaha or Indians.HD makes a good quality motorcycle as does Honda. They are different and can not really compare the 2. People will buy a motorcycle that fits what they need or want regardless of the brand. As for made in the USA,and I am in that corner, there is just not much made here anymore. Every company is outsourcing there parts to somewhere else. So the best we can hope for is assembled here. By the way , I bought my 1st electroglide in 2010 because the goldwing was and is now made in Japan. My 2010 goldwing trike was made outside of Columbus Ohio and I installed the roadsmith trike conversion myself. HD does have some competition, but I don't think goldwings will have much effect on them at least for now.

All of the elitist and bashing talk is hilarious, because on other sites (ADV Rider), there is an equal number of people bashing Harleys and their riders. I am not married to a brand of motorcycle, but I am in love with motorcycling. There is too much hate in the world for we motorcyclists that love the freedom it provides. (Climbs off soapbox).

Anyway, I was anxious for the unveiling, and Honda has not disappointed me.

John
That phrase right there describes me also, not married to any bike (or brand). Bought my first HD in 2006, my second in 2014, they've both been great, trouble free and fun to ride. That said, I've ridden my friends GW many times, the only complaints I ever had was no 6th gear and no Bluetooth (both fixed in 2018) and riding position, felt like me legs were too far behind me. As I travel solo (no passenger) the decrease in luggage capacity wouldn't bother me, the reverse is nice and the guys I ride with wouldn't care what I rode, it's not about brands with them either. Not in the market for a new bike right now but in a few years I'll be taking a long hard look at the new GW.

Edit...almost forgot, and they're giving free navigation map updates for 10 years unlike Harley that's charging $150 for a 2 year old map!

All new engine, transmission, chassis/suspension, and style. Now weighs less than Ultra. Thoughts?
I think they upgraded a lot and kept the price at $27,000. I was surprised at that.

Pray tell, what does this have to do with Harley Davidsons?

Yup. The new Wing comes standard with 125 bhp and 125 tq at the crank, at 42 mpg. Standard with what would be $15,000 worth of upgrades over any comparable Harley touring model.

Exactly! They blew it by not offering Vivid Black!

Okay, maybe that's a bit harsh. Otoh, in order to get a "decent paint scheme" on a Harley, it's "H"undreds 'o "D"ollars in extra cost.

Will all those younger riders who are riding metric bikes move over to Harley touring bikes as they get older or move up to Gold Wing, BMW, etc?
Call me an old soul, (I'm 30, and unfortunately considered a millennial) but I'm actually keeping my eyes open for a Geezer Glide to replace my RK in the next few years. I'd have one now if the numbers were in my favor. And as long as Harley puts out quality bikes, I'll have (at least) 1 in my garage.

I know a few people, and I believe you know them as well.... who have what I suppose is an after market exhaust from a Valkyrie...what appear to be 6 drag pipes (3 on each side)
Oh lord those things are LOUD... and sound good
Heck I was at some place where a Gold Wing actually won the "loudest pipes" contest

Nice thing about competition. As Honda, Yamaha, & Harley all pay attention to each other, they all strive to get better. Exciting times IMO.

I ride a Harley, my preference, but to me anything with two wheels is cool.

HD Forums has plenty of Harley bashing. No need for you to go anywhere else to get your fix.

This is the Harley Touring section, not Honda, Kawabunga or Vespa. And since this has already been posted twice in the Off Topic section, this one is being closed.
