Cost for 49mm?

Using your kit is it possible to add on the HD 49mm front end to an older bike?

I'm guessing a few of those must be kicking around 'new, take off' as folks do crazy 23" or 30" stuff to their bikes.

I have to say that I really appreciate the concept of performance baggers and getting them up closer to the spec of sports tourers. Top marks to folks putting longer rather than shorter suspension on them.

I have owned and ran Progressive 940, Ricor, JRi , Ohlins #3-#3, and my curerent Ohlins with the remote reservoir (Howard's #6). I have ridden bikes set up for me with Bitubo, Super Shox and Pro Action. The #6 with remote reservoir are the best by a long shot, the #3-#3 are damn good. With that said many touring baggers are looking for better than stock and can go with a less expensive shock. I tour but also am a very aggressive rider and wanted maximum comfort and performance so I went the route I did.

Thanks for your question. There are many on this forum who have done this conversion including TJ316 (below). Road Glide, Road King, and Bat Wing. One kit does all FLT's from 1986~current. This kit was very expensive to product from the inception as it is way cheaper to produce a set if aluminum slab trees in place of an engineered structure. The forks are not the expensive part and if it were me I would start off with brand new fork tubes and buy the rest of the components. You would than be in the same position as anyone with a 2014~current FLT that needs to have their suspension upgraded.

Dude. I said usually.... Is not the pick of canyon Carver's. That doesn't mean people can't ride who run apes. Did I ever say you need to prove your chicken strips to me? No. I said people "usually" don't pick those bars when it comes.es to a California styled performance bagger

i also said guys are running no nacelle. This is particularly to 2017 and up when the cluster is in direct way of the riser location. Did I ever say you don't need a nacelle.Lots.of people cut holes into there nacelle. But guys over here that pay big bucks for inverted front end like showing off there trick triple trees too.

So they ditch the nacelle and then can mount any bar type the want. They also usually run gauges up top of bars so there nacelle would just be blanks anyways where gauges were. So why would you want that.
If you want to run a nacelle,. More power to you .
again, ypur running apes so this whole nacelle removal thing does not pertain to you

The whole claimed weight savings on that one bike is just that..... Claimed . Its a cool looking performance bagger build. That's the point of this thread . Posting up people's take on performance baggers

How about just post up pics and stats on your current or favorite performance bagger. I did not see in any of my verbiage or anyone else's language any reason anyone should feel attacked or need to prove themselves

Just post up some cool bikes. It's not that deep

=tj316;16844169]gartec81, I totally disagree with your ape hanger comments. I run a 120 built motor, have Howard's 49mm forks and 30mm Ohlin Cartridges up front, plus we made them 1 1/2 longer for more stroke, cut a hole in my nacelle you say we don't need so I can adjust them without removing anything. I run the remote reservoir Ohlins in the rear. I go to North Carolina regularly, spent 3 weeks last summer touring the Canadian Rockies. I will show you my rear tire, no chicken strip on the left, a small one on the right because that's where I drag my 2-1 pipe. I'll spent 3 weeks this coming summer in Colorado. You are welcome to put your theory to test and join me.
[/QUOTE]gartec81 I have never met you nor had any sort of discussion with you so obviously you are not the builder of said bike. Like a reporter you are not responsible for claims other make so you were never "attacked" but the reported claims posted are definitely held in to question. The whole claimed weight savings on that one bike is just that..... Claimed . Its a cool looking performance bagger build. That's the point of this thread.

I guess I do not wish to be associated with many "Claims" which need to be verified. Make a claim, make sure it is correct and not just a lie. I guess that "I read it on the internet through a trusted source such as HDF", it must be true. I do not like to be supporting (yes, money) a place that has little regard for the truth and in my opinion, a joke unless it is proved. IMO There are forums for that type of fantasy, but (only in my opinion), this is suppose to be a forum with men and Harley's, where real men always tell the truth. Just like any situation where there is a gathering of people, always be aware to defend your facts or your representation will always be one of not to be taken seriously.

I showed all here with actual pictures real facts and why I would like to see the claimed proof. a mans motorcycle is the owners as well as his creativity to see his/her vision of a personalized motorcycle. That is what it is all about but can be achieved without BS-ing, unless all here are comfortable wallowing in BS. In exiting the last point I am making is this is not about gartec81, it is about credibility.

-The black RG with galfer brakes and traditional front end is local to me. Real nice bike.

-Surprised "raceglide" on instagram hasnt been posted yet. I would but photobucket is f'd so someone else can search. He has tons of pics, also a local kid.
Its a BBC front end kit, mjk chain drive, spf 2-1 and an S&S 124". Killer RG.

-That naked RK being weighed looks real nice, but no way thats 400lbs. I know Gartec81 isnt the one claiming it, I saw it all go down on instagram lol.

-that MJK bike is also killer and he makes some real nice stuff. His body positioning is off in that cornering pic and drives me nuts lol.

-I'm doing a budget-friendly version to my RG this winter now that the FXDX is gone. Racetech in the front, some nice 13" shocks in the rear, 2-1 pipe, tbars, tires, and call it a day. Hopefully.

Cool thread, hope it keeps going!

I found this one by kingmoochr, 49mm Front End Install Thread, have not found a price for your triple trees. I appreciate they are not going to be cheap, the Custom Cycle Engineering top yoke alone, for 41mm forks, is about $500. TJ's review is here.

Given that the centers are the same, it makes me wonder if it would be possible to get away with shimming them for 41mm forks? It would be about a 3mm 'tophat' shim.

No way the H-D OEMs are going to be as good, they only have one bolt on the top, but are they going to be worse that the old set up?

Are the head tube/bearing dimensions the same?

Ah, perhaps you answered this already.

Back to the parts bin for me.
