Question Do I need to worry?

On my 2014 FLHTK tourer there is a wiring loom running along the neck beneath the tank on the Right hand side of my bike, running toward the rear.
One of these wires has a connector. The thing that has me worried is it looks like the connector is coming apart.

Has anyone ever had this connector come apart on them - or is the looseness just my imagination?

What function would I lose ie what would be the electrical symptoms if this connector were to come apart?

Not sure of the specific connector you are referring to. But the HD connectors aren't rocket science. They are all fairly easy to assemble/disassemble.

By connector coming apart do you mean the pins are pulling out of the connector body? Or the two halves (male/female) of the connector are separating?

If it's the two halves, just give them a squeeze. Pinch them together. The connectors all have slightly different latch mechanisms, but most will click when properly seated.

If it's the pins/body, they usually have a lock feature on the connector for the back of the pins and/or the pins themselves "snap"(lock) into place. Try to reseat the questionable pin(s)..

If needed to gain extra room, or access, to the cables/connectors, removing the tank is like a 5 min. job.....

The two halves male/female appear to be separating - pins seem OK.
I've pushed them together but the latching plastic tabs don't seem to hold on to each other properly....

Maybe cut a zip tie or two to get more slack.... then try to separate them completely..... you can then see how the latch is supposed to catch...

Always a good idea to put a small dab of dielectric grease on them before pushing them back together...

Zip ties are cheap and easy to replace..

I've never seen anything come out of the factory with that sloppy blue tape on there. Kinda makes ya wonder what's goin on underneath that stuff. Might be at least part of the answer.

Buy a new connector then just insert the pins or sockets in the new half and re-connect.

If you're worried about that cannon plug separating, just take a wind or two of electrical tape around it, or put some shrink tubing around it.
