Yes you can pull the gear seal with a pick and use 1” PVC to seat new seal.

FYI, some folks green Loctite the inner race to prevent walking. You can google about it if you so desire.

If you don’t have anything to do it with, I would bring the whole inner primary and bearing to the dealer or a shop and pay a little to have it pressed out and the new one in. If you do it yourself, be sure to support it properly during pressing as it will flex and can snap. As for protecting the splines, tape it up.
thanks...yeah I didn’t really mean to pull the bearing with a pick, just meant this seal part....as I have this replacement. But maybe I’ll just take it in because I don’t have a tool to pull the bearing.

And to be clear..this is what I can pull out with a pick...the inner part and then it seems like it’ll take some decent force to get the new one on(sitting on there now for show)

1. Remove the damaged seal using a seal remover or rolling head pry bar.

Judging by some videos online, seems like maybe it will take more than a pick to get this out? People drilling a hole in it and using a slide happier to pull it out....

Dropped the inner primary at the shop to get the bearing pulled and new one put in properly, so have some time to make sure i don't screw up pulling this thing out and putting a new one in....

You should really wrap the splines on the main shaft with electrical tape and lube with a little bit of oil "before" you slide your new seal on it to prevent damaging the new seal. Even for show. It would really suck to go through all that work and have an oil leak.

Additionally, red lock tight will be sufficient for the inner bearing race. No way in hell I'd use green, you'll never get it back off or at least play hell doing so.

I haven't gone about trying to pull that seal out yet, i was waiting (hopefully) for some advice since I'm waiting for my inner primary to get done anyway.

So...any advice? Is it really as simple as using a pick? Any secrets.

Last think I want to do is f it up and not be able to get it out and then have to take the whole bike somewhere.

Thanks all!
Steve

One thing that I did on my 07 EGC when the bearing went out at 30-35K was to use a countersink to widen the oil feed hole.. My theory is that the oil that is splashed against the web flows around the hole and not much goes in. Anyway I have 85K on the bike now and the replacement seems to be going well.

I used a couple of hook picks pushed them through the rubber seal and grabbed the inside and worked it out that way and yes tape the shaft once you get the old seal out use a long piece on 1" pvc as a install too just take it easy as you tap it in would recommend while you're at the dealer getting the seal buy 2 I found if I bought one I'd screw it up but if I bought 2 the first one will go in fine.
