If you are sure that the noise is coming from the cam chest I would take to someone competent to open the cam chest and check everything out starting with the crank shaft runout. If that is out there is a good chance that other things are making a racket as a result.

Another great recommendation. Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I'm having my Indy look at the bike this morning. When I described the sound to him he also said it sounds like a lifter but he'll test ride the bike and let me know.
For the time being, After Trey looks at my bike and tells me what his opinions are I'll either have him do the work or if it's as easy as a lifter replacement I'll do the work myself and install those rockouts while I'm in there. They look easy to install. I watched a YouTube video on it and it was an easy in and out job in no time flat.
Thanks again.

The RPM range sounds about right for the rocket supports to be squirming around....I'm optimistic that the Rockouts will solve the problem
You sir, must be psychic. I took my bike to Trey at American Cycles in Ingram, Texas this morning. He took his stethoscope to my bike and determined the sound is coming from the front rocker box. He said either the bolts are loose or I have a broken rocker. Either way it's an easy fix. Tomorrow morning I'm ripping everything apart and fixing it.
Thanks again.
You know...I've had a set of rockouts on my shelf that I had forgotten about that I had bought for my old Dyna and I just started getting a noise in my SG around 2500 rpms...
I reckon I'm going to give these a shot.. looks like about a 4-5 beer job. Thank you OP for posting this.
