Cannot speak for the HD tires (I have Michelin Commander 2) but on my VMAX I only ride with Shinko Verge. Great overall tire, they have awesome grip and for the price you can't beat them.

I put a shinko on the rear of my 07 Ultra and had over 5000 on it and still had tread left on it, when I traded for a 2012 street glide!

I did a fair amount of research before installing them front and rear on my 2011 RK, including speaking to wheel manufacturer and some bike shops, but at just over 1K miles I can't provide much useful re personal experience other than they ride and handle fine so far. Might have gone different route if I had more options, but I was looking for wide white walls to fit 18" rear and 21" front. They are known to have softer compound with good grip but poor longevity--no surprise there as the two are mutually exclusive on some level. Supposedly Shinko in South Korea bought out/took over Yokohama motorcycle tire division, and quality is decent. I personally don't mind exchanging some life for better grip, and even w/shorter life I don't expect to put enough miles on bike to require changing more than every 1-2 years, so for half the price ($210 for both!) of michelin or other top tier brands they made sense for me. If longevity is more important I would go a different route.

Ran em on my 2000 RK for a couple of years. 770 whitewalls. The front seems to be lasting half of forever, the rear lasted around 4500 miles or so. Excellent traction in all conditions. I'm running an Avon Cobra rear now, and it seems to have as good traction and be lasting a long time. Gotta figure, it isn't just the cost of the tire, there's the nuisance and expense of getting it mounted.

Ratpick pretty much nailed it.

Softer compound with good grip, resulting in shorter longevity, but for a great price!
