Currently on a 8 day trip around Lake Superior on my 2013 Road King. Was rolling along with the cruise on and all of a sudden it stopped working. Double checked to make sure I did not accidentally turn it off. Using the switch to set the cruise no longer works. Any thoughts?
Is the cruise indicator orange or out? If it's steady orange you have power and it may be the activation switch or the clutch or brake light switch. Do both the front and rear brakes activate the brake light? If the indicator light is out check the fuse.
Thanks for the response. The cruise indicator light is on. There is no separate fuse for the cruise as far as I can tell but I will check the brake lights as you suggested.
I assume you would have mentioned it if so, but is there a check engine light? When I had a 2012 Road King my cruise went out, and there was a code, turns out to have been the cruise control switch.
How's your battery? After my battery started getting weak my cruise control stopped working. If I remember correctly it wouldn't even turn on, it was just like it was dead. Installed a new battery and the cruise started working again.
The suggestion for checking the brake light is not to see if it works, but if it is on when not "commanded" by using either brake. The circuit that lights the brake light also kills the cruise control. If a brake switch has gone bad or some other malfunction lights the brake light, the cruise will be inoperative even though the circuit is powered (orange light on). For the OP, while it would be unusual on a trip, have you monkeyed with the right grip or front brake lever? 99% of cruise malfunctions are owner induced when the little plastic button on the front brake switch gets broken when changing grips or doing something else with the grip or brake lever. I don't believe that the clutch safety switch will disconnect the cruise, that is covered by the sudden change in RPM automatic disconnect. (At least it is on a 2008 Road King)
About once every 2 or 3 years mine will just stop working for no apparent reason. I unplug the main computer under the seat for a few minutes and away it goes.
