I Completely Solved the Sumping Issue Etc
I recognize that all bikes have their issues and I use them inside the envelope they were designed in. So -- I've owned one K-bike, and the rest were boxers, all of which were dead reliable, easy to work on and upgrade, comfortable, handled great and were terrific long-range bikes.
I'm just learning what it means to own a Harley and in no way have I been able to make a comparison to my long list of BMW's -- it seems heavy and tough to maneuver in slow speeds, with only adequate brakes, lots of heat and unwanted smells, lots of vibration and clunks that rob me of confidence (I'm sure I'll get used to). On the plus side, it seems incredible sturdily built and understressed and prepared for lots of miles, if ridden conservatively.
Bottom line, when planning my 1200 mile road trip through the Smokies, I didn't hesitate to take my '15 R1200R over my SG -- on those technical roads, I just felt far more confident with my beemer, with it's stellar brakes and electronic safety nets than with my latest addition.
But at home, when picking a daily ride, I've chosen the Harley at least 5 times more often.
so go figure.
For now, they both stay right where they are, because they are serving 2 very different purposes. But I've had 16 bikes, and likely these two won't be the last. Enjoy that 1600B, it's a long-range bomber.
