Another tank & reduced mph to 65-75 & got 37.3mpg!! Maybe my motor is just getting cleaned out from the freeways being so wide open. Seems to like QT 91 octane for sure. Obviously my k&n AC needed recharged because my mileage has certainly been up since I did that that plus fresh crankcase oil. Also I've been drafting whenever possible since traffic is slowly picking up. AZ is reopening this week.

If you want fuel mileage buy a livewire or a moped . You won't get any better mileage without a faring. Tugging the sidecar loaded and staying with highway traffic speeds 35 MPG. With sidecar off 42 MPG. Getting silly rinding like it was stolen 35 mpg or less.
That's interesting my '68 FLH 74ci rig with 3speed/reverse got the same mpg with sidecar empty or full about 36mpg. Top reasonable speed 65, terminal 85mph.
My Ultra gives between 37 and 42mpg, all depends on the right hand. I'm sure it can get better but I like to move.
In 50 yrs, I don't think I have ever checked my mileage, or how many miles per tank either.
Fill it when I'm low, and keep on riding. I do admit there were a couple of times when that knowledge would have come in handy,
like the 2 times I ran out of gas! LOL
Range to empty. Full tank. 2014 Limited. Six gallon tank. You do the math. [/

Wow! Highest number Ive ever seen on mine was 212 after a new tank of gas.
I ride too fast I guess. Run a shield and not a fairing as well.
Motor is stock except SE Street Cannons. Running 100% gasoline (not the reformulated crap sold east of the Mississippi). Riding Black Hills 2 lanes, mostly 4th gear with some 3rd & some 5th gear use. One up.
Here in MI I generally see range to empty of 250 to 270 miles using reformulated gas & cruising generally in 5th gear. Light throttle, shift around 3,000 to 4,000 rpm depending on traffic conditions. Riding like I did when I was less patient will get me down to 210 miles range to empty on fill up. Cracking that throttle uses fuel exponentially.
My '99 w/Stage I on 95cid I actually got a low of 19.6 coming home from up north, south-bound on I-75 into a 30/35 mph headwind. Didn't get home any faster because I kept stopping for fuel.
Its not rocket science. Run your tank down to empty, fill up, reset one of the trip odometers. Then run down to nearly empty again, fill up & divide the miles on the odometer by the number of gallons you just bought at the pump. In other words Takes 10 seconds & everyone has a calculator on their phone. Easy way to see if anything is going on with your engine.
" ..........I dont come near 200 miles per tank like alot of people claim. "
I don't WANT to get anywhere near 200 miles and not be AT a gas station. My bike doesn't get that kind of mileage...and I don't think anybody riding an Ultra does either. And it's because they aren't very good at math. But there would be an easy way to have them prove it. Go on a ride with them. Start out with tanks full. Ride 180 miles and stop at a gas station and YOU fill up. They don't get to fill up. You both ride another 120 miles . UH, is your riding buddy still beside you? NO? NO, he isn't, and I didn't think he would be. You have ridden 300 miles, and he is back on the side of the road somewhere, because he couldn't ride the 300 miles he claimed he could. You see, 300 miles / 6 gallons = 50 miles per gallon. Opps! He obviously doesn't know how to calculate HIS mileage.
If that is how you calculate your mileage by the remaining miles indicator, then that is all I need to know.
If I had quoted a calculated mileage would you have called believed me?
That particular fill up took just under 2 gallons.
The trip meter had like 107 miles on it when I filled in Spearfish. (107/2= 53.5 mpg)
Gassed at Conoco on US-16 near Rushmore Shadows.
Left next AM from Hart Ranch.
Rode thru Rapid, out Nemo Road to Vanocker Canyon Road to Sturgis to Boulder Canyon Road to Deadwood to Central City to Lead to Cheyenne Crossing, north on Alt US-14 thru Savoy to Spearfish, then filled up at Exxon at Jackson & N Ames after lunch at Sanford's.
The fill up was because the ride home was via I-90 running 75 mph.
The ride home always drops mileage to around 32-42 mpg depending on wind.
