Can't lock ignition switch

Default Can't lock ignition switch
2003 roadking
key goes in part way but I can't turn the key to lock.
Any ideas?
Do I maybe need to get a new switch?

Try some graphite lubricant maybe?

oil it or get some graphite spray from an auto parts store.

Also try turning the front wheel slightly. The pin might just not be lined up with the socket to lock.

Pretty simple and easy to remove it, clean it, lube it and reinstall it while making sure it's lined up.

15 minute/1-2 beer job, taking your time

03 Road King has ignition on tank. Fork lock at base of handlebars. Turning wheel wont help in this scenario, unless OP trying to lock bars.

Sounds like either ignition needs the lube or barrel keys is the problem.

I see what it is.
looking into where the key goes I can see small cylinders that are spring loaded. One of these cylinders has turned sideways which will not allow the key to go all the way in.
I now am trying to push in one of the cylinders thus allowing me to try to upright the one that has gone sideways.
I have removed the whole switch assy and will try to fix but most people would just buy a new switch.
either way the switch had to be removed and if I can't fix then I will buy another.
17 years old I can't complain.
