Default Dang sissybar

Ive heard horror stories, but today I lived it and installed the docking hardware today for the backrest. The directions were 90% useless. It showed putting spacers in behind the rear saddlebag mount, and doing so put the bags out of alignment with the front mount. I didnt snag pics of the outcome, was good and ready to get out of the heat. Should the saddlebag mount be spaced out further then factory to accommodate the sissybar? Seems to be clearing as is now.

What type of bike do you have? I have those spacer washers on mine that came with the Docking Kit and they don't really cause any problem and space it out the correct distance.Too bad you didn't do a search, as there are many helpful hints thathave beenposted on this forum that would have saved you a lot of time and frustration. The destructions are almost totally useless like you said.

07 Streetglide here. The destructions, even the woman called them that, lol, called for a spacer behind the rear saddlebag bracket 9/16" thick. The bolt that was to go with it, too short, and if I used the long bolt, then the mounting brackets were way off. I figured out the trick to getting the bolts to line up, and got the docking hardware on at least. Ill have to look thru some posts and see what I can find. Hopefully someone has posted pics.

I guess if I looked at your name a little closer I would have known what bike you had. Here is a link with some tips that might help you.

I hear you! You need to read my post here, on my install problems:

http://forums.delphiforums.com/n/mb/...mp;msg=26799.1

And yes, those spacers are definately not supposed to be installed, despite what the "destructions" state.

Thanks,
Scott

Search is your friend on this site. This is for a road glide, but not much different.

Why not, they don't present any problem and they move the hard bags out just a little bit. Mine is fine with the spacers.

On my 07 RK the spacers made the bags stick out way too far. It didn't look natural. In fact without the spacers everything fits as original, so I'm not sure why the spacers were suggested. Nothing is touching / rubbing without the spacers. Maybe I read the instructions wrong and spacers are not need on 07's, but I had thought I read them correctly.

Thanks,
Scott

I left out the spacers. The spacers push the rear saddlebag mount bracket out too far for my liking, and cause the bag to flex when mounted. I just slipped the rear saddlebag mount bracket behind the rear docking hardware bracket and left out the spacers. Doing it that way keeps the rear saddlebag bracket in line with the front saddlebag bracket. The saddlebag lid is damn close to the rear docking point, but it doesn't rub and I've had no trouble opening and closing the bags.
