When you get it on the table you'll see it's simple to disassemble and fix the issue - which is probably just one of the three tumblers is 180 out locking the shaft in place...
LP....thanks!

this will be my next move if I can’t get it to release after playing with it some more.

would turning the bars with the ignition lock removed turn a tumbler out of place but still allow me to put the ignition lock back in?

I turned the bars with the ignition lock removed and the forks locked.....put the ignition lock back in and was able to get the forks unlocked, but now the ignition lock doesn’t want to come out.

If I'm understanding your question correctly, maybe, but it's usually putting the shaft back down in the switch without the top spacer, nut, and spring in place first and then giving it a twist - that's all it takes.
The shaft has three key positions which contact three very precise places inside the switch body. It's easy to get one or more of them misaligned.
When you take the ignition fully off, remove the rear panel (watch the video) and look closely at the silver barrel at the bottom. If it or any of the other tumblers gets cockeyed it can lock the shaft in place.

This is exactly what I did.

I guess the ignition switch is coming out tomorrow.

Thanks everyone for the info. I’ll post an update as this journey continues.

Great video on how to disassemble and realign it with one caviot: at 12:32, the wave washer goes on top of the silver cylinder, not between the electrical switch and black mechanical switch.

Just wanted to close the loop on this one.

I watched the video that LP shared, pulled the switch and followed the video again as I disassembled, aligned and reassembled the switch.

Pretty easy to do once I understood what was involved.

Thanks for all of the comments and suggestions and I’m sure glad it’s fixed. Live & learn! This forum has saved my *** quite a few times!
