I even read over detailer/wax and there is no safety warning about bare metal. Just to keep of seats and brakes

I can't believe Harley dealerships carry and sell S100 if it is known to cause problems. I have a bottle that I was using on an Ultra Limited that I just traded in for a Road King. I just threw the bottle in the trash.

Well one thing I have learned with this thread is the bad reviews on S100 Total Cleaner. Glad I never used it yet and don't plan on it after 90% seem like horrible reviews. The spray detail/wax product seems fine for detailing that I have been using on bike. I am still clueless what happened to my wheel and await for HD response.

I’m in the minority here but I actually like S100 total cycle wash, I use it on my CVO and BMW bike wheels and have great results for years. I never spray it on hot or warm wheels and I never let it come close to drying before I wash the wheels with a microfiber and quality soap.

Could have run through a puddle or splashed something on them. Even municipal water is chlorinated which can be corrosive or if you are in the country, hard water will do that. Polish them up and put a good coat of wax/polish on them and clean & dry thoroughly when washing.

What else do you store in your garage? Any pool chemicals or other chemicals nearby? Salt for winter or water softening salts?

I have two bikes, a 2002 Road King (267,000 miles) and a 2007 V-Rod (192,000 miles) . The Road King was serviced by my dealer the first 50,000 miles and they used S-100 on it after servicing and returning the bike to me. The bike always looked brand new after a service interval. Since I stopped using a dealer for service, I have been cleaning the bikes myself using S-100 on both.

I use a spray to completely soak the bikes then rinse REAL GOOD then blow dry. Afterwards I use Maguire's detail spray to polish up the paint and Chrome. Never had a problem. Probably you all that have spotting and corrosion problems is that it was not rinsed thoroughly IMMEDIATELY AFTER APPLYING AND BEFORE IT DRIES. Never apply it in direct sunlight or afternoons when sun is real hot.

The instructions for using S-100 is very emphatic it must be hosed off before it is let to dry. This is most likely where the problems arise.

Another thing you can use is a foam polisher you chuck into a drill, you can get them at Walmart. You can use a quality metal polish on this and save a lot of work. Bear in mind you have paint on the wheels as well, so make sure if you go this route, the polish won't damage paint.

Ingredients:

purified water (7732-18-5) solvent; c13-14 alkane (64742-47-8) solvent, cleaning agent; diatomaceous earth (61790-53-2) abrasive; carbon dioxide (124-38-9) propellant; dimethicone (63148-62-9) lubricant; ceteareth-6 (68439-49-6) surfactant; carnauba wax (8015-86-9) gloss agent; paraffin (8002-74-2) emulsifier; dimethoxysilyl ethylenediaminopropyl dimethicone (71750-80-6) emulsifier; stoddard solvent (8052-41-3) solvent; amino methoxy polydimethylsiloxane (69430-37-1) solvent, viscosity controlling; isopropyl alcohol (67-63-0) solvent; isobutane (75-28-5) propellant; behenyl beeswax (8006-40-4) gloss agent; cyclomethicone (556-67-2) solvent, viscosity controlling; benzisothiazolinone (2634-33-5) preservative; methylisothiazolinone (2682-20-4) preservative; cyclopentasiloxane (541-02-6) solvent, viscosity controlling.
Here's what is in that S100 detail + wax. I have found all of the motorcycle finishes to be very sensitive to chemicals and abrasives. I try to stick to car wash soap and water. Also, when you spray that stuff near the bike, it can travel and get onto surfaces you don't want it on.
