I got over trying to figure out which helmet is "more safe" too. It's really pretty simple when you think it through.

The helmet that you are wearing at the time of your crash is the level of protection you will be afforded. It doesn't matter in the least if another helmet is "safer" because you're not wearing it.

I simply got tired of playing like I could see in the rain. I got tired of carrying 16 pairs of eyeglasses. I got tired of sunburned nose and bug strikes. I got tired of playing the games it took to be cool enough to wear a chrome plated **** helmet.

I'm much more comfortable in a full face helmet with good ventilation in the blazing heat of Texas summer. I can see in the rain. I get to where I'm going and I'm refreshed, not road weary of fighting to keep from getting strangled by the chin strap on some **** pot beanie.

Nothing screams "Already Brain Dead" like a little beanie lid. Everyone who looks at you won't have to guess. It sends a message and that message isn't flattering. I don't care how much time you spend posing in front of the mirror trying to convince yourself otherwise.

I'm sorry, like it or lump it.

Life is risk... everybody should be free to choose the level of risk they are comfortable with...

FWIW.... Calling people names that don't agree with you, does NOT add any credibility to your choice/opinion...

It sends a message and that message isn't flattering... I'm sorry, like it or lump it...

What part of "like it or lump it" is confusing to you?
(hint - look up rhetorical question)

I didn't call anyone a name, nice try.

Ya know, usually everyone will just laugh at you behind your back when you wear a novelty helmet.
They don't care enough about you to be honest and ask the tough questions.
Fashion rules, I get that.

Here's something else to chew on.
I'm not advising you to wear anything, helmet, boots, gloves, eye protection.
Every time I do somebody gets their feelings hurt. Despite what type of brush you like to paint with, I'm with you on the right to decide.

OP asked for advice on which half helmet NOT the value of wearing a half helmet over some other option. I doubt anyone is arguing that a SNELL-approved full-face doesn't offer more protection than a DOT half helmet. However, even a "novelty helmet" offers some protection. For that matter, even a bandana offers a level of protection above nothing. We all just decide what minimum level of protection we desire.

Of course, but what about the guy who walks away vs the guy who lasted 4 days? Obviously there are degrees of injury, you can just assume you'll always die, in which case, ride open air, it you can take precautions for instances that are quite survivable. We all make choices and everyone should be free to make theirs.
My point was $50 or $300 spent makes no difference, it's pure luck of the draw. In 50 years of riding both with and without, several getting hit impact accidents and few stupid on my part incidents, my lids yet to get a scratch on one. The fact I survived my first 6 months on 2 wheels will remain one life's great mysteries for me.

Like I said it's a dice roll and how much you spent has dick to do with it. To each their own, do what lets you sleep at night.
