Possibility of weather changes and crossing State lines?
Full Face Helmets also provide the added benefit of hearing protection from the constant velocity of wind, vision protection and bug hits. It's more about my freedom to choose what and when. I seriously don't need a helmet making a quick trip to the grocery or hardware store or going to work, or a Sunday morning poker run. Half helmets seem to me to be a "barely complying" means anyways. If Dale Earnhardt Sr. would have been wearing a full-face helmet he may have survived. Just my .02....
Bit of real world advice on that ? No matter how little or much a helmet costs you you impact it hard enough the break any of them it's probably going to scramble the brain wearing it. Buried 2 very good friends to this. One had a full bucket the other a cheap beanie, one last 4 days after they unplugged him the other went in 6 minutes.
My deepest regrets to you and your friends loved ones.
Of course, but what about the guy who walks away vs the guy who lasted 4 days? Obviously there are degrees of injury, you can just assume you'll always die, in which case, ride open air, it you can take precautions for instances that are quite survivable. We all make choices and everyone should be free to make theirs.
Years ago I got over thinking one type of helmet was sexier than another type of helmet. Or that one helmet looks more cool or more tough or more gangster.
Now to me a beanie plastered with "the bitch fell off" stickers is just about the top of the heap when it comes to sending a message.
I got over trying to figure out which helmet is "more safe" too. It's really pretty simple when you think it through.
The helmet that you are wearing at the time of your crash is the level of protection you will be afforded. It doesn't matter in the least if another helmet is "safer" because you're not wearing it.
I simply got tired of playing like I could see in the rain. I got tired of carrying 16 pairs of eyeglasses. I got tired of sunburned nose and bug strikes. I got tired of playing the games it took to be cool enough to wear a chrome plated **** helmet.
I'm much more comfortable in a full face helmet with good ventilation in the blazing heat of Texas summer. I can see in the rain. I get to where I'm going and I'm refreshed, not road weary of fighting to keep from getting strangled by the chin strap on some **** pot beanie.
Nothing screams "Already Brain Dead" like a little beanie lid. Everyone who looks at you won't have to guess. It sends a message and that message isn't flattering. I don't care how much time you spend posing in front of the mirror trying to convince yourself otherwise.
Even though I wear and prefer a half helmet I DO recognize a full face or hybrid helmet offers better protection. However, I tend to feel very claustrophobic in a full face helmet and it reduces my field of vision....but that's me.....everyone's different.
The issue that I run into most is the color selections in half helmets. I prefer white....and most DOT half helmets don't come in white....mainly black.

What are y'all using for good comfortable half helmets? Rode for many years without one but now with grandchildren, I have a different mindset. I know the value of full face helmets but just am not interested. Need something that meets DOT approval standards and is time tested.
Thanks
WOW! For the TS to plainly state his reason and interest in recommendations for half helmets only this really went off course.
