Default Motor swap

Can I swap a 2012 103 motor/trans into a 2001 injected road king? If so, what do I need to make it work?

Congratulations on your first post to HDF, to the Forum.

Maybe; however, I think the frames/mounting points are different so that may be an issue.

Gas Tank and other issues will need to be overcome. Fuel management/electronics/ECU will need to be dealt with.

As QC alludes to, you'll need to deal with the EFI.. You could find a way to tune your original EFI to new motor or convert to a later Delphi system. You will need the primary drive and starter off the later motor/tranny. You need to update the exhaust system, probably change a bracket or 2.

If I remember correctly the front motor mount was changed at some point. Maybe 09? If so now you're fabricating on the frame to make it work

Rebuilding the current motor would be the path of least resistance.

Missed that. Frame differences as well. Probably could be done with enough skilled surgery and money, but worth it?

The front mount is different but they did it by changing the bracket and not the mount on the case.. M8 got a big change, On thing I should note is that the engine/trans/primary needs to come out of a 2012 bagger. Dyna / softail won't fit.

An old salt that I used to consult with when working on my boats used to say, "Anything can be done with enough time and money..."

In this case, it won't be a simple across the board swap...

Doable...?
Yes

Worth the time & money...?
Only the OP can say, but not for me
