Default Harley Signature LED turn signal installation

Hello Gents,

My local HD dealer was having a “ no tax sale “ so 7 decided to pickup some front and rear LED turn signals as well as the lay back LED tail light for my 2012 Ultra Limited. I got the rear turn signals installed without any issues, just trying to get at those pesky 5/32” Allen screws were a real challenge. Brake light was fairly easy , although I’m having a bit of a problem tucking in all the wires and connectors into the cavity to make the new brake light sit flush against the housing….not sure if I need to really push those wires in ..? Do they go into the cavity of the new taillight or the cavity in the cast housing on the fender below all the plug in connectors ? Last thing I want to do is crack the lens by over tightening the screws. I haven’t attempted the front LED turn signals just yet. My question is : Do I need to pull the outer fairing in order to install these lights ?

part numbers: Front turn signals 68411-10
Rear turn signals 68128-10
Rear brake/tail light 6780035

The rear lights look beautiful. I know there’s been some negative reviews on these lights failing early, hopefully they’ll last for awhile. Sorry for the long post ….any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Joe

I got those turns and the box style tail light in smoke lens. They worked good for about 5 years on my '13 King and then one-by-one the LEDs started going out. I put the regular lollipops back on and replaced all with Custom Dynamics LED lights. They just plug into the regular bulb sockets. The Custom Dynamic LEDs you'll need a load equalizer, but those H-D lights don't need one.

On the tail light wiring, I just ZIP tied together and place light cavity. I didn't want to push the wires into the fender.

If you don't already have one, get the module that makes the turn signals into run/brake/turn here.

This is what mine looked like

Did you have the front signal lights as well?
I have the same setup on my Road King on the rear and they worked great. I’ve had them for about 7 years.
Now after installing the front signals, the rear no longer work. Harley says you don’t need a load equalizer for these lights. The front lights work perfectly and the rear brake light works, there is power to the rear signals (checked with a test light) but the rear signals have no light at all.

For the OP, I had to have the nacelle taken apart to get to where the wire connectors are for the front signal lights on RK. The new lights will fit into a new connector that you make up from the kit.

A bit ironic, spend all this money for better signals and now I am using hand signals.

I had the H-D turns all around. They all worked fine. The rear turns and the tail light started burning out one LED at a time. The fronts were good. Here's my winter riding config. Keep your original turns if you decide to go with the "plug-in" LEDs from Custom Dynamics.

Hey Fellas; thanks very much for your replies. I finally got the rear tail lamp to seat correctly. Just moved some wiring around , think it was the rear fender bottom tail tip lamp causing a bit of a bind for the other wires to get through. Very happy with the set up. Not looking forward to installing the front turn signals but doesn’t look too bad. . ? At least the fairing torx screws are easily accessible. Would be nice to have an extra set of hands to help while removing the outer fairing .
Wish me luck 🍀….

Thanks again for all the suggestions, much appreciated…

Joe

My 2019 Roadking front was an exact plug and play and now for over a year no failures to front or back. There was 1 wire that had to run up thru the spotlight stud and tie in.
Also my rear lights cam with plugs to add after wiring was run. Followed directions and then plugged them up fairly simple. Mine also work as brake/blinkers without adding a module.
Hoping all the issues were fixed over the years.

That’s a beautiful looking Road King sir….and thanks for your reply. I spoke with the parts guy at the dealership and he’s telling me that one of the techs told him that the connection for the turn signals is just behind the forks in that little cavity. I tried to follow the wires which are wrapped in that plastic sheathing and I’m positive it goes up into the fairing. This is on a 2012 Ultra Limited . Can anyone chime in please ? Does the front outer fairing have to come off in order to reach/access the turn signal connectors or plugs . ?
Thank you…

I removed the front fairing on my 2008 Street glide and it was very simple and easy and not what I expected.
Then I replaced the dash out with all the Gages and not super bad. But front fairing is not a hard job at all and kudos to HD for making the design so easy to remove.
