Thinking about changing my bars on my 20 SGS to help with shoulder, neck, and back pain. Any experience, does it help raising the position of my arms and hands will help?
I was thinking just 12 or 14 inch meat hooks. I figured when I drive my truck they are most comfortable at the top of the steering wheel but maybe Im overthinking
Some people say if you get pain at base of neck bringing the bars back will help. For me with carpal tunnel and elbow issues, I don't like bars that raise my hands to much. Also on bikes with fairings, I like my hands behind the fairing and warm..
As others have also mentioned, I think the pull back will likely help back pain more. I do have 12 Yaffe Monkey Bars with them pulled back about as close as the fairing will allow and am very comfortable. Im 511 with medium length arms for reference.
Most pain is caused by rounding your upper back to reach for the bars. I would try pullbacks with a minimal rise first.
look at pictures of riders, on other marques, that do serious long miles. You wont see one that rides with their arms in apes or long reaches forward.
most are the sit up and beg position
