If the price is right, go for it. There are still parts available and many indy shops that will work on them. Also with the aftermarket support, its relatively inexpensive to make them quick, reliable and keep em that way.
I guess to me it would all depend on how rough your talking and what kinda money the seller is asking???? To me 50,000miles is nothing on a 98 RG. I'd love to have one as a 2nd Bike...
