Shriner Edition... what is it?
The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
1st I'm a Mason and a Shriner. I started to buy a Shrine edition bike, but decided on the Street Glide instead. I also looked at a Police edition already on the floor at Shenandoah Harley in Staunton, Va in 2 tone blue.
All the Shrine, Fire, and Peace Office editions are titled as Shrine edition and are considered fleet vehicles. The fleet vehicle designation is how they are able to cut discounts when special ordered for a Shriner, firefighter, or policeman.
Interesting to know many dealers do NOT give a discount on these special editions. They DO get a discount from MOCO and some do not pass it on to the buyer. I know this because I had a deal worked up for a nice discount on a new Shrine edition at one dealer, then when I checked at several others they said no discount was offered.
These special editions have to be ordered by a Shriner, fire fighter, or policeman. Some were sent out to dealers without being ordered, such as the ones at Shenandoah. They just showed up with other shipments. For a period of 90 days they can only be sold to qualifying buyers from those groups. After 90 days they are available to any buyer, but most dealers don't pass on the discount if you're not a Shriner, etc.
When you look at the special editions, you will see white and purple for Shriners on certain models. Those are the colors and bikes the Shrine established with MOCO. Shriners can order any color they wish on the models listed, but cannot get other models other than the ones listed. I wanted a Shrine Street Glide and even contacted HD to find out how. They said I could have any color in the models listed, but no other models.
These special editions sometimes (based on the year) have special tank emblems, pin striping, medallions, air cleaners, etc. Just depends on what year you get.
One poster is correct that Jesters are NOT the official Shrine Clowns. I am a Shrine clown so I have a bit of knowledge there. I could tell you what Jesters are, but then I would have to kill you. (lol) The other poster was correct in his explanation and it is an honor to be a Jester.
Watching the Shriners ride in parades is really cool. Most Shriners are a bit advanced in age. (I'm 40, but my buddy Nobles are mostly 65 - 90.) Watching them do the motor patrol "rodeo" type maneuvers on tight streets with crowds of people on the side of the roads is pretty impressive. They have skills!
I would also like to tell you all Masonry is NOT a religion or a secret society. Shrine is not an advanced level of Masonry. You have to be a Master Mason to join the Shrine, but it's just an ancillary group of Masonry. We're not all drunks either despite common misconception. Many of us, including me, don't even drink. I don't have a problem with drinking, it's just not for me. If anyone is interested in Masonry, find one and ask him about it. That's how you become one...
Original poster, if you get this bike and it has any parts with Shrine emblems I will be glad to buy them from you if they fit my street glide. Horn cover, air cleaner, etc? Just let me know...
