Ok here is the shops answer to my check engine light being on and throwing false codes. At the 15,000 mile check-up had platinum plugs installed. Was told that these had less resistance and was causing the check engine light to come on. Showing a no compression code. How does this sound to all the brain here in this fine forum, and believe me I trust you a lot more than I trust the dealer.
OK, My 05 Ultra started this CEL crap on Sat so I parked it to think about it before my typical freak out when things like this happen.Today (Mon)I take it out and the light comes on under medium to heavy throttle but goes ofwhen I let off or coast. So I come home after work and got on this thread. Went out and checked the plug wireslike several here have mentioned and guess what, rear wire waspart way off; I would say about 1/8-1/4 inch. It ran strong, did not miss, but gave me some back fire on deceleration it didn't used to. Thanks to those withcalm, logical suggestions, you were dead on.Put the wire back where it belongs and all is good.
Yes, I had the exact same thing- I checked over the engine and found that the rear spark plug wire was not snapped into place- the wire boot was over the plug but it wasn't snapped all the way home- no codes since
Ditto, on my bike, & a couple of friends bikes. A common problem with careless techs, and vibration. Too bad the dealer couldn't/wouldn't take time to do the job right.
Do you by any chance have a PCIII on the bike? I was having the same problem, however my dealer took the time to explain (and prove) to me that it was a result of my bike having a PCIII installed.
