I use a piece of plastic made from a round gallon windshield washer bottle, cut the top and bottom away then cut down the middle, make a 12 long and 6-8 inch cut ending up with a piece of flat plastic, rolls up under the filter.
I punch a hole in the bottom of the filter and let it drain for a couple of hours.
I also use the K&N filter with the 17MM wrench nut on the bottom. Better filter, designed for synthetic oils, and is a breeze to loosen and tighten.
Don't use brake clean spray!!!!! It will damage electrical connections and damage paint, especially if splashed on the fender!!!
I Use plain 409 spray cleaner in the filter area, some cleaners will damage the aluminum, read the label.
