I just found this site, I am currently working in Iraq and will be home for 2 weeks end of March. I just bought off Ebay (from a real HD Dealer) a 07 Impact Blue Road King Police Special. I am a long time rider of other makes and models but this will be my first Big Twin Harley (not new to tourers though) It will be delivered when Im home so I can at least ride it some before I go back.
It has 6800 miles and Dealer put on new tires and clear front running lights, still has the solo set up atm. Is there anything I need to know about the police specials?? I got a good deal ($15K) and it was almost 5K cheaper then getting a new one, plus it has ABS, 6 gal tank and the 103 engine plus as a bonus its Impact Blue my fav color.
I am currently scanning through old post on this site trying to learn about my new baby, just thought I would drop a line and say hi and see if anyone could chime in with info.
Peace all and keep the rubber side down, safe travels All
First, "Welcome" to HDF and "Thank You" for your service.
There are many Rk and EG police model owners on the forum and plenty of experience in modifying them.
From an ownership standpoint, HD has had two "recalls" or similar modifications announced: (1) replacing the OEM heads with heads with automatic compression releases; and, (2) a modification to the ABS brake system. You should probably email the HD selling dealership to confirm that the work involved in both of those has been done--it should be done without charge to you.
Also, some dealerships sell the police bikes with passenger floorboards installed since the bikes don't come with them (it's a solo seat bike from the factory and the run-flat OEM tires aren't rated for two-up riding). Don't know if you plan to carry any passengers when you're visiting but floorboards cost about 200-300 to add to the police bike.
It would be interesting to know how an '07 model has a 6-gallon tank since these first appeared on '08 models.
