early fuel light

the gas warning light on my rkc has been coming on while the gauge show about 3/8th tank.I checked and the gauges looks to be close to accurate.
anyone know what would cause the idiot light to come on early.was wondering if dirty filter would have effect,I just finished doing bunch of fabrication in shop while bike was in and the cap was off some so crap getting into tank is very possible.
Was wondering if any had this trouble,before the fun of pulling pump assembly.

I could swear that's when mine comes on too. I thought it was normal.

when mine comes on that means I only have 1.5 gals left.

I've only had mine a month, but it seems early for me, too. The gauge is weird, the light seems early, but I've been depending on the odometer for thirty five years. It works for me, why stop now, right?
