I had the same issue. The problem is IDV3 tags in the MP3 file. You can remove these easily with a free program called WinAmp (http://www.winamp.com). Simply open the program, select the file you want to edit, hit alt 3 (or right mouse click the file and select view file info). Uncheck the "include IDv3 tag in file" checkbox, then hit the OK button. You need to do this for all the MP3 files you want to burn (or at least the problem files that won't play).
This solved the problem for me. However, I've found that the HK CD player is pretty finicky and some files still seem to have some issues, but this solve the majority of my problem of files being skipped over.
ok, after trying numerous things... i stand corrected. it IS the album art. I looked through all the songs that played correctly on my deck, and none of them had album art embedded in the file. all the ones that did were skipped over by the deck. so, in itunes, i went into the "get more info" on each mp3, and deleted all the album artwork. i burn the new playlist as an mp3 cd... and boom. it worked. every single song worked. it was kind of a pain in the *** figuring it out... but that was the ultimate issue... the album artwork.
So... in closing, it will play pretty much ANY mp3 file. ID3 tags don't seem to an issue, that harmon kardon deck just doesnt like embedded artwork. for some odd reason.
Good to know...curious that the only way I could get mine to work was to remove the ID3v2 tags. I'm going to try just removing the art next time. Thanks for the follow up.
This same issue has been driving me crazy on my 06 Classic. Going to try removing the art work as suggested and hopefully it fixes the problem. Still bull if they have not released an updated firmware for the deck that address the embedded album art You spend time cleaning up all your mp3'c (Adding album work, etc.) and you need to strip it off so it will play on an HK deck???
