A couple friends of mine became dealers just so they wouldn't have to fool with a dealer, for conveniece....they sell some to friends but don't push it. Unsure what it cost them to become dealers but it wasn't a lot.
Why cheap out on oil? I have been using Amsoil in all my vehicles for a few years now, I pay more than most other oils but to me it's worth it for my piece of mind. Over the distance between oil changes, it amounts to a few extra coffees I don't buy.
I'll spend the money to protect my vehicle investments.

You were starting to make sense until you got to the part about giving up coffee. That's where I shut off to anything further you have to say.
As an AMSOIL dealer I can can tell you that the cost of all their products went up as of July 1. This is due to the increased costs of base materials.
The perfered customer (or dealer) cost currently is $8.25 a quart or $94.20 a case.
Delivered to my door is $113.20 a case, including shipping. I put 10% profit for me (yes I have to make something) so that is $10.37 a quart. I took all picing information off an order I created to find out exact amounts.
Filters have gone up even more!
The typical twin cam chrome filter is $15.35 cost /$19.75 retail!!!!!!!
Current retail is $11.05 a quart plus shipping and tax.
It is a shame that shipping has come into play but until recently I could pick up the product and save my customers thew shipping.
Now with fuel costs I just have it shipped and pass the cost on. If you order online you will still pay the shipping.
Overall I have noticed the costs have gone up dramaticly, almost to the point of switching myself but in the long run I have seen how great of a product is and will contine to use it.
If you can get this GOLD any cheaper than I can sell it for here then snap it up quick! Prices are going to go up..........They just have not caught up yet.
Maybe I'm missing the point here. I ride a 20,000 motorcycle, drive a 45,000 truck, and my wife drives a 35,000 station wagon. Am I really supposed to get upset over paying a little bit more for a few oil changes every year? Maybe it's just me but I have bigger things to worry about. If you're not happy with the price you are paying, go somewhere else and try to get it cheaper. If you are like me, I fully expect people/businesses to make a profit on things they sell me. If I think they are ripping me off, I'll spend my dollars elsewhere. Sorry but I don't get what you're so upset over.
Funny, I was thinking the same thing. I just can't get too emotional over ~$50 when it's something as important as the lifeblood of my engine; especially when it's roughly the cost of a nice bottle of wine at dinner. Of course this IMHO, and to each his own -- if you're happy then have a ball.
Mobil 1 15w50 costs about $22 for a 5-quart bottle at Wal-Mart, sources tell me. It's an excellent oil for Harleys based on several tests conducted by MC mags, and may be the best oil bargain out there.
DITTO...
This is all my friends and I have used in our Harleys the past five years. I do 7500 mile oil change intervals with new filters and top offs every 2500.

I value coffee as 'the elixir of life, you can never have enough' and I drink a LOT of it...trust me, I'm not giving up my bean, and I'm not giving up my Amsoil.
