Default Inner primary cracked

Riding today and noticed that the inner primary is cracked on an 05 Electra Glide. Good thing it is on the top so that the oil didn't run out and cause other issues. I guess the oil is still in there, it made the 2 hour ride home. How hard is it to change one of those on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being find a mechanic to do it.

The inner primary is easily done at home, but time consuming and you need the service manual and torque wrench. If you would do a clutch yourself its not really much more.

+1... Easy to do yourself. You might think about replacing yours with a chrome inner. On your scale of hardness, maybe a 3.

Inner primary covers don't just randomly crack for no reason. It's a symptom.
Tear into it and find the problem. Inspect your engine to transmission connection carefully, look for loose fasteners and cracks in the other cases.

You'll need tools to remove, install and torque the compensator and clutch hub, every thing else is just basic bolts.

I changed mine on my evo softail and the book said to adjust the trans angle if installing a different primary than the one removed if they dont line up. Well mine didnt and since I had a 140 tire that barely cleared the tire, I adjusted the motor angle and never had an issue with it. I cant say a touring chassis is the same, so a book is definitely in order.
