Default Question about Harleys Grease

The bearing grease thats listed in the service manual for the steering head, is there any other type that could take its place. And a lot less money..

Go to a John Deere dealer and get Corn Header grease. It is a high quality grease and doesn't break down and ooze out in the heat.

The grease the service manual states to use is part no. 99857-97 "special purpose grease" when I purchased it the parts guy told me I could use the HD wheel bearing grease as both were high temp grease, and in the words of "Steve Martin" AKA "The Jerk" it's always good to keep your "special purpose" greased. I chose to use what the book said.

Any old bearing grease will work just fine but i would use a high temp to help keep it from dripping out.

I have always used the HD grease because if you use something else you are mixing the two. Maybe me being **** but most people agree that is isnt good to mix lubricants of any kind. As far as lubrication Im sure any brand would be just fine.

I dont think mixing the stearing head grease would be issue. These are not like wheel bearings turning at high RPM's.
I,ve been using high temp wheel bearing grease.
