Thumbs up Update on PC V and HD Engine Codes

This is a link to my thread about the PC V.

https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touri...4619-pc-v.html

Today, I rode the bike to and from work....there were NO ENGINE CODES....all listing "NONE"!!!!! Granted, it's not that long of a ride in either direction...but Im feeling MUCH BETTER about the PC V upgrade. The bike's running like never before. Crisp throttle response....really noticable in 4th and 5th gear. 6th gear & 85 mph is a whole 'nother world.

I cant say enough good about Fuel Moto. When I talked to Keith yesterday, he was sending me another set of terminals/eliminators....no questions asked. They'll definately get my business from now on.

Thanks to you guys here on the forum for your suggestions. Special thanks to 09 Streetglider for posting the link about the codes...otherwise I'd still be 'wondering'.

No problem man, that's what we're all here for. Let us know if you have any more trouble. Glad it was an easy fix.

By the way, you didn't happen to start the engine without the eliminators installed when you were putting in your PCV did ya? If you got anxious and started up without the eliminators maybe that would have been enough to throw a code... Just guessing...

also after it starts ...for about 5-8 seconds the engine light comes on then goes off after 2 seconds???

I doubt this is related to the PCV install. Check the codes via the odometer check for your year. I would bet either the tach or the sender is going bad. Maybe someone else could say for sure...but if your light is coming on at the same time then there is going to be an associated code to lead you in the right direction.

The light going back off after a few seconds would indicate the problem has rectified itself, and the code will be historical...so your trouble is probably intermitent and could be a warning of impending complete failure of whatever the historical code points to.

I noticed the same thing with the tach. Spoke with fuelmoto on the phone. Give them a call they can explain it to you. Bottom line nothing is wrong.

With the Rev Xtend enabled on 08-09 DBW bikes with PC III USB or PC-V the tach needle will only read to approx 5100 RPM due to the strategy the PC module uses to raise the rev limiter. The actual limiter will be 6200 RPM's. Your engine light sequence means it has a stored code, which can be due to a number of things including setting the throttle position with the PC software. This is a non issue as long as the light is not staying on and it will clear itself in 50 engine starts.

Wow...I hadn't heard that one yet. Thanks Jamie.

Jamie...Is mine not doing this because of the ECM download that came with my 103? I think they said my rev limiter is now 6200 due to the download and though I do not have rev-extend enabled, I have pushed it past 5500...but my tach worked fine and no codes were set.

Correct, this would only apply to 08-09 bikes with a stock ECM calibration, note this will not cause codes for any reason.

Posting this link for those who might be curious what 'diagnostic codes' are active when the check engine light comes on. Has a good write-up about how to get to the diagnostics via your speedometer.
