I'm wondering how many miles you can get out of these air cooled wonders. With the economy, I'm thinking about keeping my ride longer than I originally intended!!
I have an '07 RG with 14,000 miles. How many miles can you expect before you need to do any rebuilding??
At 14,000 miles your bike is just about broken in. I just traded a 2005 FXDI with 45,000 miles and it ran better than the day I picked it up. I used Mobil 1, HD Primary fluid and Redline Shockproof and changed fluids every 5000 miles.
My ultra has 73,000 miles on I just did a big bore and cams and that was by choice!!
This motor looked like it had 1000 miles on it when I tore it apart!!!
Take good care of it & it'll take good care of you.
Good oil, changed regularly, & basic maintenance & you can get 100K. Many have & will continue to.
How "hard" you ride it has a lot to do with it too. There are certainly issues that can arise as a result of hard riding.... crank scissoring, clutches, etc....
I put a 95 top end on my 03 Ultra at 65,000 miles, my engine was in great shape, no smoke, no oil burn, etc. I did have to put a new oil pump on the bike due to a piece of the chain guide breaking off, but I think your bike has had all of those issues delt with by HD. Like everyone says, use good oil, change it often, it can go 100K easy. gary
When Harley designed the Twin Cam engine, it was stated that it could go 100,000 miles before needing a rebuild. Of course proper maintenance is a given here. Whether the rest of the bike can go that far without work is something different.
28000 miles in about 18 19 months...Runs like acharm...actually better than when i bought it...change the oil every 5k-7k miles full syn. I plan on getting at least getting 50k in 2 more years then trade for a new one...
