my 09 street glide is hard start,it takes 2 sometimes 3 times to start when it finally does, after a few sec. the rpm starts going up and down between 600-900 rpm for about 30-60 sec.before it smooths out. took to dealer they said first time they ever heard of any problem like this ,ser.mgn.said he called harley and they didn't know. they said it had fouled plugs, replaced those, cleaned 02sen. got it home started doing same thing again!
Curious, is it bone stock or has it been modified. Do you have a tuner to it. RPM range is too low. should be around 1000. Wondering if it is you throttle plate motor? I surprised that HD cannot diag the motor. If it has an IAC,(idle air control motor) it might be adjusted to low.
Not sure if TBW has the iac or not or if the throttle plact accouns for this with the stepper motor.
dont run it that low or you may damage the motor.............take it back, drop it off, and tell them to call ya when they get it right...............If they cant get it right you will be in for your next new 09..........
bike is bone stock. once the bike warms up it idles at 1000 rpm. no problems riding around shutting it off and restarting. i do know i'am disappointed with the power.my 06 heritage stock ,except for v&h exh.and stage1 air cl. seemed like it had more torque!
Turn Ignition switch from off to ignition and watch the yellow engine check light turn on then off a few seconds later. You will hear the fuel pump buzz for a moment. Do not start motor.
As soon as the yellow engine check light turns off turn the ignition switch off, wait two seconds and then immediatley rotate ignition switch from off to igntion again and wait for the engine check light to turn on then off. Repeat this process four times.
Try this a couple of times and see if the idle problem fixes itself.
This is more commonly used when the engine idles too high. Often a reset is needed if the rider uses the ignition switch to turn the engine off instead of the kill switch. Hope this works.
engine light is off while run.I've not tryed open throttle starting! As for starting up & shutting down I only use the ignition switch, never the on/off switch! it was 70 deg.here today bike started first try after turning overseveral times ,rpm up&dn.800-1200. I put 200mi. on it today, made 5or6 stops,a couple of times the engine turned over 3or4 times before it started. by the way the last time i rode it was around 55deg.
