I bought a drivers back rest today but when I went to install it my bike didn't match the directions. This bike only had 2400 miles when I bought it, but the previous owner did some really stupid things. Anyway, I wonder if some of the stock hardware under the seat is missing.
I have two holes in the fender where it looks like maybe there was supposed to be a plate underneath. My holes are just in the sheet metal with nothing underneath. The backrest bracket instructions say to put it onto the bolts that are coming up, but there is nothing but sheet metal and two holes.
Can anyone tell me what part is supposed to be there? Anyone have a parts manual that might show what part I need? I have the service manual, but there isn't much for rear fender and no diagram.

Holy crap! Thank you for the detailed info. I don't know where you come up with that but thank you so much. Sheltons is close, but I think the goldsboro location is closed tomorrow. I'll go by the smithfield location and maybe they can get it to me from the other shop in a few days.

That was where the passenger grab handles were installed, they no longer are standard equipment on the '09s, have got to purchase them seperately now. But it seems the last person to own that bike took them off.
