Default F**king Molex connectors!

Swapped my stock 07 RK bars for WO518 yesterday. Think I'm going to like them. Anyway...

Spent 2 hours pulling the wires from the Molex connectors (to extend wiring). I know the process - pull the secondary lock, stick a pin down in that little hole, wire comes right out, right? That worked for 15 of 17. I screwed around for two hours trying to get the other 2. Just wouldn't come. Finally cut and spliced.

Anyone have any experience at these? Any advice? I tried different pins (paper clip, drill bit, rigid wire) , playing with the secondary lock, forcing pin further into hole... I tried everything.

Thanks for any help. Would be good to know a trick.

I was in the same boat as you my friend! I just got done doing a bar swap on my RK to WO513's.

I screwed with those connectors, but didn't last as long as you did. Finally went to the extreme and forked out about $40.00 for a specialized tool to remove them. Ordered it through my dealer. It was in the Drag Specialties book, don't know the part number.

Anyway, best $40.00 I spent on the project. Made removing those pins sweet and simple.

Now I know that I could have done it many other ways, but you live and learn. I have since heard that a very small allen wrench will work, a drill bit will work, but the key is to have something rigid and the tip should be rounded off a bit. I don't know why, but this is what that tool had going for it.

Hope this helps.

You can buy Molex pin pushers at about any place that sells tools for the electronics business. (Newark, Electronic Supply, ect) They usually come with 4 sizes and cost less then $20.

I use a pick. Works great. Once you get the "touch" it is fairly simple. First time I tried it though, it took a while.

I just took the whole damn connector apart, it will snap back together. Once you pull the secondary lock up, you can slip a thin flat strip (one down each side) in to release the pin alignment piece. Don't get me wrong, it was still a pain in the *** but at 2AM you will try just about anything.

I had a bunch of those crappy little silver screwdrivers laying around (pic of what I'm talking about attached) and I took one and ground the flat blade off on a bench grinder. This worked awesome for the pin tool. I've done a bunch of bar swaps now and once you get the hang of it, it goes pretty quick.

I used a paper clip and it worked sweet. I had a couple of stubborn ones, but I got them out. You will know when you get it as it makes a "click"

I farked around with the connectors when swapping my pancake turn signals for bullets. Got so pissed I cut one. Then I had a revelation and tried a sewing needle. The other seven were done in a matter of minutes.
