In my experience, the type and brand of helmet you wear, and how you wear it, (FF with shield open for example, or a 1/2) can make a BIG difference in the amout of buffeting you feel with the stock windshield. Change the easy, cheap stuff first, before you start buying windshields, which are all expensive.

I'm also waiting for some real rider reviews on the National Cycle shields. They look promising.

OEM tall
13" KW
14" CB
16" CB

The 16" Cee Bailey Super Step Contour Euro makes me smile - I even ordered this one in clear... I average ~ 1600 miles/month and need something functional - the CB 16" SSC fits the bill.

Hint for ya - instead of going through the same expensive experiment - get you some lowers and you will notice the "dirty air" difference immediately. If you do buy numerous shields, keep in mind there are bozos (er, folks) on eBay who will pay just shy of retail for your used stuff!

silly question, but when yall mention the height's of the shields, how is that measured? distance from fairing to the top of the shield? ie a shield might be 20" long, but due to the curve/slope of the sheild, it only gets 12" above the fairing, would that be a 20 or 12? sorry for such a dumb question..

I have a stock height clearview windshield, it's great but I'm debating getting another taller one for long trips. On the taller "touring" wind shields what do you do in a heavy rain? I've had times when I couldn't see anything through the wind shield and the prospect of doing that all day isn't very appealing.

I started a thread here https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touri...he-record.html that might help, but I will have to agree with the others about the CV 2". I have the CV +1 1/2", and I could use just a little more. I have tried a few others that did not help (maybe even worsened) the buffeting problem. I should add that I have not tried (because of the expense) a Cee Bailey Euro. Some guys like'em, some don't.

My real question is whether to look through the windshield or over it. In a situation of riding all day in the rain I've had enough trouble seeing through it that I prefer to be able to look over the top. What do all the other touring types with the taller windhsields do in a heavey rain?

For interstate trips I like to look thru the windshield. Beats dodging flying objects. I'd like to think a Cee Baily Euro fits my needs. The look fits the RG. I'm 5'9", and ride with a back rest, + my wife. Help me guys. What size, and tent would be be best?

Funny you should mention the helmet thing. I have a 3/4 Shoei J-Wing wired up for my long runs and a couple 1/2 lids for around town. When I use the 3/4 (which is smooth, no visor either) and my head feels like it's attached to one of those cheap vibrating motel beds. With the 1/2, it's noticeably better. With all the threads about Roadie shields, I see a consistent theme about the lowers making a huge difference. I'd really like to give that a go when some cash rolls in.

How about some input from guys that did exactly that, added the lowers only, and compare the buffeting. OE without lowers, then OE with lowers. ??

Plain and simple.....the stock RG windshield Sucks!!!! No way around it.
Lowers help alot with the FORCE of air coming up from the sides of the tank that causes problems.
I went with a +1.5 Clearview for my RG and could not be happier.
I run with lowers until it gets hot out (+90F), then they come off.
