That's like saying you changed the Wheels on your Harley so it's not a Harley anymore???
I put the Jims 120 in my bike....but the fact remains that my bike still has a Harley frame and VIN and is registered and insured as a Harley.....be cause it is one. Regardless of what I do to my bike as long as I keep the original frame it will still be considered a Harley.
He might be chasing numbers to win a "mine is bigger than yours" debate. Also, he might be into racing, but if that were the case, plenty of sport bikes are cheaper and faster. To each his own, and whatever he rides, (Asian Sportbike, HD or Franken-bike, etc.) I will still give him respect as a fellow rider.
He was a local firemen.I think using tires is an example is a bit much of a stretch don't you think? If you take the whole entire engine out and replace it with something else anything other then a harley motor to me it is not a harley any longer.
So to some of you if the bike frame is a harley then that is all that matters to you.If you replace the entire motor with something other then a harley motor to me in my opinion along with my friends who i have asked they feel it is not a harley anymore.
Okay...this still makes no sense to me!
I bought a Jims 120....had to buy it through a local Harley dealer as Harley Davidson has the distributorship tied up on that line of motor and is in cahoots with Jims. So really.....I just bought another Harley Motor that says Jims on the Cases and heads( only on the heads because they machined the "Screamin Eagle" off) and is full of "Screamin Eagle" parts.
So in your opinion....do I still own a Harley or what????
If you replace the jugs with S&S 106 jugs...replace the tranny with a Baker DD7...add some Kuryakyn chrome pieces...pipes with Vance & Hines, suspension with Progressive, Mustang saddle, Klock Werks wind screen...some Wild One bars, Hog Tunes speakers...gauges with Dakota digital guages...rear fender with a Bad Dad rear fender and stretched bags...
When you pull over in a gas station, do folks still ask you, "Is that your Harley?"
If it dosen't sound and look like a HD it's not. He said he got the motor from NC, how many componets were made in the U.S.A.?
If that motor came from Kendall Johnson #1 It'll be more than 90% USA made and #2 It'll be larger than 120 cu. in.
KJ is building motors as large as 150 cu in. They make BIG power AND are fairly reliable, but thet ain't cheap!
The question I have is why doesn't the MOCO provide a stock engine that delivers more horsepower and torque? Why do the jap bikes (and the beemers and ducs) deliver more stock power out of the showroom? I love Harleys and will stick with them but if other companys can deliver more stock power, Harley could too. I think it's all about the $ they make on us after the sale by making us pay for the upgrades.....................just sayin'
